Wow, After three distinctive dust storms this year(or was it four). The forecast for the Telluride region is Blowing Dust according to NOAA. Normally we get hit by one dust storm a year but this is ridiculous.

Yeah, that was a beautiful forecast to wake up to yesterday
I don't think we got hit too bad, thankfully. Then again, the snowpack is so dusty, I wouldn't have been able to tell.
Edit to add from the CAIC: "There was a strong wind event across the mountains Wednesday night though, plus more reports of another dust on snow event from the San Juan, the ninth of the season. This dust is certainly impacting our snowpack by creating an environment where the snowpack is shrinking faster."

Just read that in the caic. 9 duststorms, although this one did not seem bad. Ive never seen such a dirty snowpack ever. I cant imagine what its going to look like after a few of the lower dust layers come to the surface.

If they could just figure out how to put a little pine beetle insectacide in there...
Yeah Deeppo... Scary huh? The last four storms have all started with armageddon-like dirt storms and wind before it starts snowing on top. In 16 yrs I have never seen anything even close to the "dust events" of this season!
Our spring backcountry season is being slaughtered by the dirt layers. I'm going climbing in the desert instead... you know... where the dust came from!
