Trying to pin this on someone?
It was an outdated design that he hoarded.

Pickels,
Thanks for the info, I was not trying to "pin it on someone" I was just curious as to what was involved with the binding itself. from what you posted it looks like JT and Shane are doing it all themselves.
I was under the impression that they had started using Dukes due to the unreliability of the Tyrolias in no-fall terrain. I know they had straps going to their legs to release them maybe with some sort of pulley system.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air
Wow thats some heavy shit.....a maggots old bindings might of killed McConkey... damn.
LET IT SNOW
FYI- When Shane's skis arrived back to the states, BASE friends tested the bindings and found nothing wrong with the release mechanisms. Essentially they have no clue as to why the skis wouldn't release.
This is interesting, being an AMF guy way back in the day, these binding where on every pair of my skis. I wondered when he pulled up on the heel leaver, if the air pressure/wind forced the ski onto the boot, no allowing it to release and fall away.
Either way, what a disaster.
If nothing else, this thread was worth it because it linked to another thread that had this...
Black mambas![]()
I can tell you guys when I heard the news, I had that sinking feeling that I could have somehow contributed to his death.
Thanks for posting about the binding tests that his buddies did after the fact. That makes me feel a little better.
Here's our PM's when the Tyrolia hunt was on. He PM'd me a lot of personal info as you can see, just a down to earth guy in a rush to get the job done. Just before his death, I sent some Tyrolias to another magg who wanted them for the same reason...

I didn't know Shane, but that letter seems to sum up what he was all about. The mambas made me laugh, and also choked me up. It is a rare individual that can do both at once.
Peace Shane.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot
