    Kayak Race next weekend

Hey guys. Just thought I'd let you know that the kayak club for Colorado School of Mines is putting on a kayak race/event next weekend at the Clear Creek whitewater park in Golden, CO next Sat. and Sun. We're also putting on a movie premier Friday night. I believe the movie is The Risen Sun. Let me know if you guys want any information about competing/participating/watching the event.

There's gonna be tons of drinking and boating so it's gonna be a fun time.

    Thanks

    Slalom Race:
Each racer must pass through the designated gates both WITH and AGAINST the current to obtain points. Penalties are awarded for missing gates, entering gates the wrong way, hitting gates, and moving gates. Each racers best finishing time plus penalties will be combined for the team’s final Slalom score. The penalties are as follows:
    • Touching a gate regardless of number of times = 2 second penalty
    • Intentionally moving or pushing a gate = 50 second penalty
    • Negotiating a gate in the wrong direction = 50 second penalty
    • Missing a gate = 50 second penalty
Swimmers who finish receive finishing time
Swimmers who do not finish are DQ’d and receive a time of 10 minutes

    Boater Cross:
Two racers from each team participate in this event, one in each of two heats. There will be a mass start from the top of the course. The objective is to make it through all designated gates on the course ahead of the other boaters.
    • One racer per team in each heat
    • Points are awarded based on finishing place
    • Boater must pass through designated gates
    • If ONE gate is missed, that boater will be DISQUALIFIED
    • No intentional skirt pulling or paddle hitting will be allowed
    • 1st place gets 60 seconds subtracted form the team’s total time
    • 2nd place gets 45 seconds subtracted from the team’s total time

    • All remaining finishers get 10 seconds subtracted from the team’s total time

    Rodeo Event:
Three members per team will compete in prelims in different heats. Each member will have 1 minute to demonstrate his or her skill. The top two or three members from each heat will advance to the finals. Final rounds will also last 1 minute per competitor.
    • Two judges will rate each competitor on difficulty and style
    • Points will be given according to the Rodeo score sheet
    • Winners will be determined according to number of points
    • 1st place gets 120 seconds subtracted form the team’s total time
    • 2nd place gets 100 seconds subtracted from the team’s total time.
    • 3rd place gets 80 seconds subtracted from the team’s total time.

    Water Polo:
The whole team must participate and compete against another team. Each team will play two games at 10 minutes apiece (5 minute halves). Games will be played on the pond to the north of Clear Creek.
    • Competitors must be in their boat while handling the ball
    • No paddles are allowed (except the goalie)
    • No intentional skirt pulling or flipping will be allowed
    • Ball must completely cross the goal line to be a goal
    • Swimmers must get back in their boats as quickly as possible, play will continue while swimmers are in the water
    • If a team wins both games, 45 seconds will be deducted from the final team score
    • If a team wins 1 game, 30 seconds will be deducted from the final team score
    • If no games are won, 15 seconds will be deducted from the final team score

    Trash Pick Up:
2 members from each team will participate, one in a boat and one on shore. All teams will participate at the same time. Each team will have 5 minutes to collect as much trash as possible from the starting line to the finish line.
    • No tipping or skirt pulling allowed
    • Competitors have five minutes to reach the finish line with all of their trash. Teams who don’t finish within the allotted time will be disqualified, thus no points will be taken off their overall time.
    • There will be NO PENALTY for swimming as long as both competitors cross the finish line at the same time.
    • Places will be assigned to teams based on the overall weight of their trash bag.
    • The team with the heaviest trash bag wins obviously
    • 1st place will have 90 seconds deducted from their overall time. 2nd place will have 60 seconds deducted from their overall time. 3rd place will have 30 seconds deducted from their overall time.
    • For highly unusual/most difficult to collect piece of trash extra time will be deducted. 15 seconds will be deducted per unusual/difficult item.
    Team Scoring:
Final team scores will be calculated as follows:

Total Team Time + Slalom Penalties– Water Polo Score – Boater Cross Score – Trash Pick Up Score – Rodeo Score = Final Score
