    The word "Hacker."

Also starts with H, and also had a totally different meaning that is now lost. Except that the initial meaning was of praise, and now it is derogarory. Huck vs hacker, the revenge of the non-geek?

I like my crackers salted, but not too much, and like those dry square ones that come in orange wrapper a lot more than something like Ritz or similar ones, which are too sweet. I know about crashers, of course, given my name.

I am not sure anybody seriously wants to know the history of the hacker stuff, but the Jargon file will shed some light. It conveniently talks not only about hack (and the meaning of hack), which is the subject of this topic, but also about crackers.

    There. Some history.
