    Bye to Boston...

I'm about to walk out of my office in Boston for the last time. Tomorrow morning, a moving company will pick up all the stuff I own, and two weeks later they will drop it off at a yet-to-be-determined location somewhere around SLC.

I'm not sure when I'll be back east again; when I'll see another sunrise from the summit of Monadnock; when I'll schralp pow in the trees at Jay; when I'll drink and play darts and laugh with irreplaceable friends in shady bars in Cambridge; when I'll sit down to dinner with family at a cozy spot in the North End; or when I'll see another Sox game from the bleachers in dead center at Fenway.

I am sure that in two weeks, I'll have settled into a place nestled somewhere close to LCC; I'm sure that I'll meet new friends; I'm sure that I'll figure out what really is important in life, and I'm sure that it won't include spending 65 hours a week chained to a desk.

I haven't been around the board for that long, but thanks to all of you guys and gals for your advice on the move - it was invaluable. And hopefully I'll meet you soon.

    Congrats on your pilgrimage.

I'm four weeks behind you and my destination 100 miles north of yours.

May there be no hostels on your wagonride west.

FKNA, stump - good luck with your adventure west. Mad respect to you for making the decision & going with it quickly - you won't regret it.

I'll be embarking on my own reloco to UT by early Oct, and as it gets inevitably close, getting a bit more anxious, excited, reminiscient and somewhat sad each day. but at the end of it, I know it's something I have to do for me, to finally move on to the next phase of my life, and ultimately, I know it'll bring bring new experiences, new friends, and who knows what else - that's the best part of it all - not really having a plan, but just to let things happen. And with the support of the Utard crew, I know that will be an adventure all it's own.

In one way, I'm angry I wasted so much damn time, when i could have been out there months ago, if not a year ago.

    But, I got to really appreciate the time I did have by soaking up some of he things I'll miss the most - especially the quality time with family, my dearest and incredibly supportive friends, and their young kids my "neices" and "nephews"; hiking the trails & skiing mountains of western Maine & NH's whites, soaking up time at the lakes & ocean, eating every bit of yummy lobster and clams I could, sipping pints of all those great full strength east coast beers; partying in the Old Port a few last times, and downtown Boston too;

edit - trying to add pic of one last hurrah at Acadia NP-my server's hosed right now.. maybe later..

Way to pull the trigger guys & girls!I don't know about all the things you'll be missing back home, but skiing ain't gonna be one of 'em!!!!!!!
Utah's bad years are generally akin to Colorado's best years. You're going to have to get some new accessories like a snowzy,& get used to covering your mouth with a neck gator on a pow day otherwise you'll be inhaling snow constantly!Death by Snogasim.

Nice dode. I am about a week and 1/2 away from saying goodbye to Boston and I am STOKED!!! Never lived anywhere that far from my hometown, got sick of my job and decided I should give it a shot. Definitely hit me that I'll wake up one day, be 50 years old and never have even tried to make it happen somewhere else. I'm kinda scared, definitely nervous...but that's totally natural as far as I can tell. Already got 2 job offers so that helps plus I'm moving in with one of my best friends and though he's a gaper as far as skiing, he's one of the funniest dudes I've ever known so this is gonna be fun!

Stuff I'll miss about Boston/the East coast:

    the history

    the sox

    the pats

    the masshole accent!

    my family

    Vermont

    my friends

Getting cocked at Lucky's, then going to the Landing, then going to Ernesto's for pizza

    fishing off my friend's boat

    chowdah

fall and the leaves changing colors

ALLLLL those beautiful college girls that roll into town every September

    Essex

    fried clams

    Mad River Glen

    my sense of security

    maddies cocktails (LEGENDARY!)

    the porch at the barnacle

Stuff I won't miss so much:

    my lame job

    the humidity

    bullet-proof east coast hard pack

    the mashole accent

the 3 weeks or so of bitter subzero cold every winter

    the massive pot holes

    the big fucking dig

    the green line

the rut I feel like I've been in by not trying living someplace else

seeing loadie idiots I went to high school with and was never friends with, but who now want to talk my ear off when I go to hometown bars

the evil eye from stuck up girls when I smile at them

how noticably angry people are around here

edit: also won't miss the nut with robots in his brain, a conspiracy theory issue, a meth addiction and my name on a list. or am I just thinking of basom at this point? I'm confused.

Thanks for the well wishes. EC peeps - there'll be some floor space reserved for you when you need it this winter.

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Ashtabula, OH. It feel strange - all I want right now is a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, and I can't have one. Dammit.

If all it takes for the Sox to win the World Series is me leaving town, than its a small price to pay.

edit: oh yeah, track and skiguide - good luck with your moves as well. looking forward to meeting you both at some point.

I was just in PA last weekend. Was this unique to Scranton or is the going rate for yuengling $1.50/pint?

yah. doesn't that suck the big one? www.dunkindonuts.com will be my friend when I move - at least you can order the beans to make your own. (hint: wait for the 2lbs/9.99 sale)

hm. hope ashtabula, OH is an interesting stop. I've got a friend in Columbus to crash with though. then I don't know where- may go down to Nashville, meet a client, or go the more northern route.

I fired the Segway up into Turbo mode, and pulled into SLC yesterday.

Looking at some places today, but does anyone have beta on a 2bed condo/townhouse for rent around 9400 up in Sandy?
