    Choosing a C-1 paddle

    Hey guys,

I was diagnosed with a herniated disc last summer and it's looking like I'll probably need to take another season off of kayaking this year due to the sitting position required. So. . . I'm thinking about converting one of my boats to a C-1. Anybody have any good recommendations for a good all around paddle that will work well for river running and a little bit of rodeo?

    Thanks,

    Seth

The Werner Bandit is the best of the cheaper options, either the fiberglass or carbon models work okay.

If you're looking to spring for something a little more, I'm a big fan of any of the Mitchell paddles, I've got a wood shaft-carbon blade model and it's lasted me 7 years so far and still going strong, I use it for everything from class 5 creeking to bashing the concrete features in the local whitewater park. And they have great repair service for when you do damage it.

If you want some more opinions check out cboats.net, it's the only real place online to get C1 info.

Another vote for the Werner. I have had mine for 5 years now and I don't do a ton of C-1in but I think it works great for river running, a little slalom and playboating.

Thanks guys. I had looked at the Bandit briefly. Your votes of confidence are great. Any help with choosing length? I've done a bit of searching and haven't come up with anything substantial. Start big and cut down as desired?

    Gala DoubleTorque Shaft...(fwiw)

If you should become interested in one of the Gala C-1/OC-1 paddles with their "Double Torque" carbon shaft let me know, have a new shaft...no grip or blade.
    43.5" length...FS.

*Seth...to be honest, I'd take a look at a wood shaft... Let the blade and shaft do the work...even though there's a little slack-time between the mental "DO it" and the resulting "it gets done".
