Ok, I really want to get serious about attending the utah mini. However, it's going to be $$$ for me. Plane ticket + lift tickets + housing + food = around $600. Plus I need to take an avie class either in Dec. or in January. And that's $300-ish.

Are there any hostels in SLC? I should probably read this entire thread. I really want to go.....

My vote is to maybe do a Wednesday at Solitude or maybe the Canyons. Thursday gets my vote for Snowbasin, since I won't be around Sunday really, really wanna hit the Basin with a contingent of Maggots to show my dad and I the goods. Saturday at the Bird sounds good, I'll leave the Mini with a bang [anijinx] at the Bird. Alta friday is pretty much set in stone which is fine with me. One question, why no love for The Canyons, anyone up for some of the best tree skiing in Utah maybe Wednesday, if not, Solitude is kool. We will travel for snow and maggots!

I think there is plenty of love for the canyons. Mid Dec. is just so hit and miss in terms of snow. LCC and BCC are more reliable.

If you bring good beer/booze I'm sure you can crash at a Maggot's place

Can I stash it on the plane in my bag without security calling me out on it? Will it shake up because of the altitude change in flight? Was that a dumb question? Maybe I'll just wrap it as a gift and carry it on.

Anyway, YES I'm willing to bring a 24 case of anything of your choosing for a night or two stay at a maggot place. Oh, and consider me two people = two 24 packs. I gotta consider the fact I'll be staying along side Legosker!

I think as long as its clearly labeled as beer they won't mind (i.e., they won't let you carry on an unmarked container of liquid that could potentially be explosive).

The altitude won't affect the beer since it's sealed.

I'm still a little on the fence on going. I really want to, but I'm trying to figure out where I should get a hotel, if I need a rental car, etc. I'd really like to get a flight for under $200, but I'm not counting on it especially with the price of oil through the roof. Right now the best I can do is SWA for around $230.

I will likely be around on the weekdays and looking for BC partners. I work weekends, so I'm out for that.

I doubt you will need a car or at least go in on a car with other staying at the BW in Sandy. That place was full of maggots last year.

Bus service goes up and there seems to be plenty of utards around. Time to bribe em.

The UTA site doesn't show the winter bus schedule yet, and I can't find it anywhere on the web. Do the buses run all day, or just in the morning and evening? Right now it looks like I'll get in Friday at 10:30 am and leave Sunday at 5:20 pm, so obviously I'd need to find some other way to/from the mountains both days if I can't take the bus.

Anyone else out there looking to share a hotel room? The Sandy BW looks pretty good, but would look even better with the price split in half

    Looky Here:

    UTA Bus to LCC

I would think someone will take you up on the room split, it happened like mad when they sold out last year during the MINI. A ton of maggots were around so I heard.

Buses run throughout the day, everyday in the winter. I am also sure that there will be plenty of people with cars willing to provide some transportation.

Most of the stuff is in the first post, but the rest is good too.

With all the maggots that are dong this for the weekend and still saving money for the SUMMIT, you can do this for less.

Time to start the "who wants to share a room, car, prostitute" threads.

On more reason to hit up Snowbasin!

Our own Flykdog has secured a position on the ski patrol full time at Snowbasin!! Huge congrats considering this is a guy who only got off his snowboard 2 seasons ago and got on skis and has killed it since. Definately the skier of the year award in my book with Divegirl coming in a close second.

Now, if only I can talk him into radioing me with rope droppings!

That link only shows the CURRENT schedule, I believe, so there's basically only one or two runs up and down LCC. I can't find the winter schedule, but I'll trust cololi that it runs throughout the day.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger. I was holding out for Delta, since their flight times are better, but the price is up over $400 from Seattle now! So it looks like Southwest is the way to go.

cololi knows his shiz, do I would trust him, plus as soon as Altachic pokes her head in here, she will say the same thing.

From past experiences (kinda phUnk like ) showing up a bit late sometimes, buses are still in my damn way up the road.

I have a good feeling that you will end up crammed in a car full of out of townermaggots with all your stinky ski gear heading out from one of the BW's. Sandy and Midvale, Sandy BW was more used I do believe.

Trust me and the utards, we are not going to let you fly out here to sit in a room, we will get you to the mountain somehow. I am not sure at this point what my car load looks like, but I gotta drive up there too, so that is at least one maggot heading up to ski/ride.

don't quote me, but i think the bus runs every 15min on weekends and every half hour on weekdays. i don't remember for sure, but i've never had any real problems getting up and down the canyon. worst case, just thumb for it. people will pick you up in the canyon so long as you don't look like an axe murderer.

    Good hotel rate

I've been checking hotel rates and found a deal I thought others might be interested in. The Best Western Executive Inn in Midvale (next to the 7200 S TRAX station) is $57 per night on www.travelocity.com. The price I saw quoted on their website is $69 and both Expedia and Orbitz show it a few dollars more than travelocity.

This seems like a pretty smokin' deal.

    Lodging Deal In Sandy, UT

Just talked to the Country Inn and Suites in Sandy on 12300 South, just off I-15.

Thier deal for the mini time-frame is this.

1 night standard room lodging (either 1 King or 2 queens) is $149.

    included per night-

-2 LIFT PASSES TO ANY OF THE 4 Cottonwood ski resorts (do the math)

    - Happy Hour (free drinks) Sun-Thurs

    -continental breakfast

-shuttle to and from the 9000 S trax station (busses to canyon mouths leave every 15 minutes)

-fresh cookies at the check in counter (yeah they are guud)

-airport shuttle is I think 7-bucks to airport.

Its a nice place with pool, jaccuzi. Located within 1/4 mile of tons of restarants, mall, Canyon Sports, Boarders Choice, REI, Iggy's Sports Bar.

    phone is (801)553-1151
