Anyone know the Aspen Men's Downhill course?

I know it starts up high and ends down low. Anyone know anything else about it?
    It's idomatic, beatch.

edit: ok, really: I have this panorama of Ajax, Highlands, and Buttermilk on my wall behind my computer. I frequently find myself looking at it, and just picking out runs and lines and generally wishing I wasn't here.

    So I'm just curious, ok?

Aztec is a bitch at 60+.
Kitt won it a coupla times, though FIS says different.
I think it's a fun course--why, you hoping to run it somehow??

edit: here it is, more or less. Same as SG, just extend the start a bit further up.

No, no... I'm far too pussy to do anything like that.

    Well, and I suck.

Can't a dood be curious around here? Folks are awfully suspishy today!

    edit: Thanks dex!

Hey, by the way, I think I met a fambly that lives either in or extrememly close to your old house here in Cleveburg. You told me the address once for some reason, and I ride down Tudor all the time. I never remembered the number, but I have this idea of which house it is. Anyway, they're nice folks.

It's a great course. Some gliding on top, but very technical from Aztec on down. It's nice to see the world cup return to Aspen at Thanksgiving, but I wish we had the men's events.

Any of you Classic pass holders, they now have a 7 day for $199, and will probably throw in the W/C weekend for free again. The race is always a good time.

Cornhole, family that's 'new' to the street (meaning in the past 12 years, wow, I'm old) or lived there before? What number? Why are you on Tudor so much?
Watch out for Joey Gantis behind the lane at the end of the street--lotsa guns, and he's crazy.

you could end up skiing all the way up to the peak which is dangerous as once you get there, it tends to fall away rather sharply.

it has been done a few different ways when i have done it,dependent on supa G v. DH Men/women, fis v jeep pro series, etc some w/ aztec some w/o

    standard is somewhere on Ruthies->summer road->aztec->spring pitch-> strawpile->norway

strwapile corner is netted out fierce cuz people tend to fly off the mtn there

It is awesome when the bottom of 1-a side is groomed out for it though, from the top of ruthies down to the bottom of 1-A in the am is kick ass.
    ususally empty

of course early bucket, cold, mid week, no snow for a while- morning pre speed nets laps can be a rip too, especially when trying to keep up with raddam on the low profile tips

    scares me just remembering it

MD-- that's part of the reason I was asking... I remember ripping down the course when they had it groomed and just shitting my pants after the rt turn on Aztec and also the top of Norway, which is DAMN steep. I couldn't really remember the exact places of all this, but between the trail map, your comments, and Dex's map it's all coming back.

When I was a tyke I remember standing at the top of Norway (must've been...) with my dad. He told me how the course went straight down through here, and I just remember being shocked.

Isn't the DH start house just above the top of FIS lift?

I had a Kiwi friend race the last 24 hours and I think it went from the gondola, down through the gully on the lookers left from the SG course. He said it was very fast....especially for a race that lasts 24 hours!

Wicked fun and fast, Strawpile as mentioned is where you start to drift, and think about becoming one with the netting. Helped on course in 02, when the Puckett bros went head to head.
Alka had some success at this racew too, he'd be the man to be asking about the course.

After last years 24hrs being cancelled due to Audi dropping out as the main sponsor, it's been rumored Salomon will pick up the tab this year to get it going again.

    This years races stateside;

2004-05 FIS Alpine World Cup domestic schedule:
    Aspen
    Fri., Nov. 26 - Women’s GS (Thanksgiving)
    Sat., Nov. 27 - Women’s SL
    Sun., Nov. 28 - Women’s SL
    Beaver Creek (tentative)
    Tues., Nov. 30 - Men’s SG
    Fri., Dec. 3 - Men’s DH
    Sat., Dec. 4 - Men’s GS
    Sun., Dec. 5 - Men’s SL
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

Going around 60-70, start to lay over a left footed turn, mid turn feet leave the ground fly one foot of the ground for 40 feet, get left foot down again to complete turn, in transition to right footed turn, get sent off a roller flying for 60 feet 3-4 feet of the ground land and then get pushed into a serious compression turn, if you don't slap your back in the compression you'll be fine, transition to 120 degree banked left footed turn, exit turn and fly off the next knoll directly aiming at the fence, set down the landing gear and if you went 5-10 feet too big your done, in the fence, if not arc the final right footed turn into the finish. That's the bottom half of the Ajax course. The top half is gnarlier.

The start is right next to the top of the Ruthies chair. Ruthies, Aztec, Spring Pitch, Strawpile around swiss corner and down 5th ave. Sorry no Norway, too steep with no place to put a finish line.

24 Hour - Dipsy, Spar, Kleenex Corner to Little Nells.
