Franz... Nice work! Thought it was going to be too firm for ya. Looked fun.

Anyone driving up from Boston Friday am? Long shot, I know, but Friday is looking to be the tits and while my wife can meet me up there Friday night that gives me no transport to get up there for Friday day! PM me if so.

Otherwise, watching weather and hoping temps stay warm enough up high on Saturday to make a Saturday GOS assault worthwhile.

Good to know all here are safe. The avalanche in Tuck's on Saturday swept a few, but seems they escaped with little/no injuries.

Reminder for all to be safe up there.

Kids off this week for spring break. Thinking about finding our way up to Tucks. First time, all that shit.

What do we need to know? Gear wise, hiking wise, etc.

Check out Time for Tuckerman.com. Pretty much find anything you need there. I hiked up in sneakers (was nice to have Stabilicers on the way down, but not necessary). I also had crampons for the ravine, but if you're not hiking north-facing aspects that would be icy, no need--the bootpacks were developed well.

Current plan, weather permitting, is to skin the cog railway up to the Great Gulf on Saturday, perhaps venturing over into the east snow fields for some mellow turns as well. Chute me a PM if you plan to be in either of those areas this weekend. May tour some newbs into the Ravine on Sunday depending again on weather and how Saturday goes. Hope to see a few mags up there. Watching weather....

    anyone plan on sleeping topside?
my option is to come up late sat night and either sleep in my truck at the base or slog up to the shelters. i just dont want to hike up to find the shelters full and have to hike back down.

Do you think the elevation will be enough to get it a bit colder to properly cycle the corn and stop the melt out?

Matt, forcasts are from NOAA Mt Washinton 5600' elevation. Play safe as its setting up to be a tricky one. A beacon would be a good idea with up to a foot [without wind loading] of sun baked un-cycled snow.

    Keep an eye herehttp://www.mountwashington.org/weather/

Tonight: Snow showers, mainly between 8pm and 2am. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 18. South wind 11 to 14 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

Thursday: A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind around 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 45. West wind between 13 and 15 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. South wind around 14 mph becoming west.

Saturday: Sunny and breezy, with a high near 69.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 41.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 66wind does appear to have been downgraded.

    Summit Forecast – Thursday, April 23, 2009
Low pressure that brought several inches of snow to the summit yesterday and overnight will be departing towards the Canadian Maritimes today. Steadier snow will taper off to showery activity as the surface low departs along with an upper level trough swinging down towards the northeast. The 7 am can collection will probably see totals near 3 to 4 inches based on observations since midnight. For the rest of the day into the night, new snow will be less than three inches. As the surface low departs, it will deepen and as high pressure builds in behind it, the pressure gradient will intensify resulting in high winds today and into the night possibly crossing the century mark by this afternoon if models hold true. These winds will generate cold wind chills although not cold enough for any advisories or warning but still, much cooler than the days ahead. The high winds may also generate white out conditions at times above tree line the next 24 hours as the new snow is whipped about. When gathering the precipitation can at 1 am last night, so much snow was being whipped up, I got to the can and back by counting steps although, as of 4 am this morning, visibility has improved by several feet as the falling snow tapers and the blowing snow continues to settle. In addition to the low visibility, snow is being drifted to deep and high ridges, some a few feet high. The snow will continue to settle today into the overnight as snow packs down in a northwest to southeast fashion as is typical after inches of snow have fallen. Also, new snow from the past 24 hours is possible down to about 2500 feet as the auto road vertical profile showed temperatures below freezing through the night down to about this elevation. I would recommend reading the USFS avalanche bulletin and the backcountry weather page before heading into the back terrain today. Improving visibility will be further aided overnight as the high builds in and drier air gets transported in clearing the fog and clouds above. The high will continue into tomorrow continuing to lower winds, keeping things clear, and beginning a warming pattern through the day and into the weekend. In fact, Saturday and Sunday could see new daily record highs being set. It will be quite a contrast from the weather yesterday and today

^^^ Would be surprised if you can get a spot but never know. Warm temps either attracting the masses or avy scare making them scatter. ???? Good luck. Have fun and be safe.

where are the mellowest aspects besides the snowfields that would provide a longer run? It sounds absolutely crazy up there right now.

Masses. Was packed up there, but also witnessed 2 small wet slides. Also got to help with a mountain rescue, as 2 or 3 people were taken off in sleds today.
