[Sort of SR] Online contact lens dealers that don't require Rx?

I use contacts when I ski and surf. Bought a years supply that lasted 4 (Focus Dailies). Rx expired. Eye Dr wants to fuck me up the ass by charging me $200 exam and lens fitting before writing the exact same Rx I had.

Anyone know of sites that sell contacts w/o prescription? I've had orders cancelled by lens.com and I've googled the shit out of it but all the sites seem to be Rx only.

    Thanks!

Have you tried one of the big chains that have an eye doc on staff instead of going straight to an optician?
Not sure how it works for ya down there, but we don't get any coverage on eye care and Lenscrafters hooks me up with a $45 eye exam and no fitting fees.

Hmmm? What? I ordered from them this time last year and I didn't have to fax them a Rx. I called them and made sure. I need to check this out. I'm on the case, Punani! I actually need some new contacts also!

I wear contacts and when I HAVE to get a checkup, I go to Costco...it's like $60.

Also, most of the online places don't require that you send them an Rx anymore. They put it on their site for liability reasons, but they will send out the lenses regardless. I've done it twice so far with two different companies (can't remember names). Do a Google search and find the lowest prices and go with them.

Aren't your eyes worth 45 to 60 dollars for a quick eye exam. Who knows, your prespriction could have changed. I know that contacts are great for skiing. IMHO there are just as important as fat skis. Would be hard pressed to ski with glasses again. Try wallmart or lenscrafters. My local optomistist only charges $80 CND for a fitting and evaluation fee.

    just my two cents worth.

Below Zero and Huck4bucks: Some new Federal pound-me-in-the-ass law went effect on Feb 4 '04 requiring them to verify Rx's

Powderhound: Changing Rx's = grounds for fine or a stint in a pound-me-in-the-ass facility Trust me on this.

Rossibandit- it's about the principle...My vision Rx has not changed in 4 years (last check up was Jan...I'm using the same glasses, and same contact lenses I have since 2000). My glasses Rx (current) is the same as my contacts Rx (expired), but I can't use one to buy the other. Eye Doc won't renew my '00 contact Rx because it was from another Doc, and they want to pound me in the ass for $200 just to write me the exact same contact Rx.

My VSP is maxed for this year.

Damn this is more complicated than I thought. I can buy Mota, Coca, Crack, Smack and Pills at the street corner but I can't get friggin contacts?

Dang, Punani, that is a whole lot of ass pounding!

Well, that sucks, looks like I'll have to go the eye doctor now!

Buy lenses from a Canadian online dealer. They don't follow the same laws. Plus it's cheaper.

Yeah, what they said. PearleVision was $100 per visit in Boulder, never any other fees for changing prescriptions, etc. And they had a cool doc who is now at Aspen Eyewear (Dr. Liz).

Also, looks like PearleVision has a credit card with no interest for 12 months, etc. etc. etc.

    Unhappy

Well, if thats the case, that sucks if you had a check up in January.

Up in BC a check up is good for two years for glasses and contacts and the optomitists will give you the prescricption for free to take to any other lens maker or contact dealer.

    I say, screw them all.

I wish I only had to pay $200. Try having fucked eyes where I can't see with glasses and have to wear 2 pairs of contacts. Hards on top of softs. My eye doctor charged me $500 plus the cost of lenses. Then when the hard one falls out while riding its like chucking $100 bills out the eye.

Lost one on Monday while road riding. Just stopped at a stoplight and the damn thing falls out. I'm bent over (slow pitch) palming the ground while cars wiz past as I look for the damn lens.

Or when surfing and unfortunately end up in the spin cycle and gett sand caught under the hard lense lense that won't come out, oh ya, now that feels real good.

Sorry, no good suggestions, but it could be worse!

I wish my eyes would chuck $100 bills. But seriously, having to wear two pairs of contacts would really suck.

If you have any MD friends just have them call in the scrip for you.
I went through the same BS with 1800CONTACTS earlier this year.

Holy christ, that's a lot of fun.

I take it you have to wear 2 contacts and not glasses while surfing/riding?

That blows! Can you get an Rx Oakley water jacket? They'd probably be the same ($500-ish).

It took me a long time to get used to surfing with contacts because I like to open my eyes and look around when duckdiving (esp. in big surf when you can avoid the turbulence and aim for the underwater happy place). Also, when you're pulling into closeout barrels and trying to punch thru the lip, I usually end up losing them too.

    Sucks to have 4 eyes.

Yep, wear 2 sets of contacts all the time. If I ever have glasses on I won't be able to see anything except maybe my morning cereal.

I basically have to just always close the eyes when ever I'm about to get wet.

I'm assuming the Oakley thangs are some form of glasses which means, nope won't work for me as I have to have the hard contact in...

Pu, You must have a friend who is a doc that would write it up?

In Februray of this year, contact lenses were classified as "medical devices." This changed how they can legally be distributed. You now need an Rx to get them.

Good luck on your search Punani.

That's just weird. Up here the local optician gave me a 2 minute eye exam and was happy to refill my contacts. They do have to "exam" you at least once but that's free if you have an old contact box. I can't imagine that there's a requirement to get an annual exam -- that's just your doctor bending you over the counter.

    Come to Canada young man.

I'll e-mail you a scan of my Rx from the doc. If you want. You can Superimpose the writing off a der and then write in your own shit.
