    Light Truck Info

I'm looking to replace my Cavo with a light truck. I need something that is bulletproof. That will last and last and won't constantly need repair. 4WD is nice but also makes for the truck to be a little more expensive. I need something with a towing capacity of around 2000 pounds, we need to pull our boat a few times a year.

I was looking and the old Toys 85-86' are suppose to be bomber. But frame rust is suppose to be a huge Toy killer. But the engines are suppose to be good well past 200,000.

The problem is that there's not a huge supply of them around. I'm willing to look and hunt for one if it's going to be worth it. I'm a bit of a car jong so is there any other pick ups that are going to be bomber? Older Ranger or S-10 maybe. It's hard to find info on older cars i've looked at msn autos and they have some.

I'm trying to keep it under 4,000. Think it's going to be possible to find a good ride?

There's lots of older Toyota PUs on the west coast for sale that don't suffer from rust problems. SR5s with the R22 engine can be found in Oregon for under $3K and probably California, too. Good luck.

    Sublime-

I have a 95 Toyota Tacoma 2WD. Driven across country twice pulling a U-Haul and have never had any problems with it. I'm a TOTAL car jong, but all I did was change the oil, tires and brakes and it's still running. I would brag about the mileage, but the odometer only works some of the time. Currently it reads 130,000 but it's gotta be closer to 200K. I think rust was a problem with the older (late 70s, early 80s) models, but not any longer.
So I got that goin' for me...which is nice.

Personally I would never buy a 2WD pickup. The tail is so light that it'll brake free at the wrong time. On gravel roads 4WD stops rear wheel hopping and makes for a better ride. On snow it means the rear doesn't pass the front. A limited slip rear end helps too. It does hurt gas mileage but since the front axle is used occasionally there's no extra maintenance.

4WD versions stand taller and look more manly too.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Ya, and I drive one in Alberta, Canada. Been about a year now, and sometimes I still try to signal lane changes with the windshild wipers over all they work just fine as a right hand drive in a left hand drive world.
