Help!! Montpelier advice!

Tomorrow I'll be phone interviewing with someone in Montpelier about a job. Tell me about the place. Never even been there. Great job!

Beautiful old world architecture. Cobblestone streets and dominant churches. Narrow alleys and windy streets. A hot, dry climate but not too far from some choice skiing. Basically it is the quintessence of La Provence.

Well, it's the only state capital without either a Walmart or a McDonald's (or at least that was true a couple years ago). Population about 8,000. Smallest state capital in the country. Very granola. Right off I-89. Culinary Instititue of America is in town, some good eats in town 'cause of that. There's a college - St. Michael's, I think? A river goes through the town - maybe the Winooski? I can't remember. Good access to skiing but you gotta drive a bit.

That's all I got.

edit: on the city's homepage they list four "attractions". One of which is a cemetary.

Its a pretty cool town in my opinion. About 45mins to Burlington with the Stowe/Sugarbush/Mad Riva exit is about 1/2 way. If you get the job you have plenty of cool living options within easy driving distance of B-town, work, and skiing. It is definatily small town VT (like the whole state other than B-Town and Stowe). Lots of down home Shoob vibe going on. Obviously, tone down the NYC a little, probably a good idea not to talk about the ALCS. Most of the employement in government or social service related.

Ice, St. Mikes is in Winooski/Essex (B-town suburb). Benny, e me if you need more info.

Don't know much about Montpelier, but I do know this. Great jobs are not that easy to come by in the state of VT.

It's smack dab in the middle of everything. The local DMV office is by far the most efficient I've ever been to in America, that's gotta count for something. I'm sure you can still find that lesbian sandwich in the same county too. Isn't it about harvest time up there too?

Montpelier VT is certainly small time. I've been visiting there almost my entire life. Not much to do, really. A few theaters, restauraunts, etc. If you get the job, I'd try and live a little closer to Burlington/Stowe etc, for obvious reasons. Commute from Burlington a little long, but not totally unreasonable. Lots of hippy dippy folks in the area- Goddard college is the nearest college I think, small liberal arts school with the emphasis on LIBERAL.

Unfortunately they have a mcdonalds now, but no walmart. Next to the mcdonalds is a great diner though, awesome sweet potato fries. get the job for that reason, if any thing. the fries are really good.

Montpelier is kinda cool. Definitely some great restaurants and nice people. I think St. Mike's is actually in Burlington....well...anyways I know it's not in Montpelier. My only problem I ever had with the place is that it's in a valley and the air seemed really stale there when I went to visit my buddy one summer. Maybe it was a fluke but...yeah. They have a cool movie theater and it's definitely not far to mrg/stowe/sugarbush and....I'm guessing about and hour 1/2 or so to Jay. Montreal is about 2.5 hours away and Boston is about 3 hours. Big river goes through the middle of town which is sweet.

Drove by a few time but did not remember much. You would only be 55 miles from me if you go there. I don't know if there are closer maggots, but Im not too far and another few maggots are just down the road in Logan. I live in Cove, UT, just south of Franklin, ID.

Yup, Montpelier, Vermont, although Google has the same problem. I'll get back to ya after the interview tomorrow. Already trying to tone down the NYC fast talk. But, maybe that's what they want...hmmmm....no, doubt that......

That would be Montpellier with two 'l' then. And being from Aix-en-Provence myself, I'd take a slight exception to your "the quintessence of" statement Cool city. Ski, sail, everything.

Damn. Really didn't think anyone would bust me on that. Never underestimate the maggots I suppose.

Anyhow, I was just rambling: I don't really know either city, but my grandparents used to live near Orange so I've seen much from the backseat of a rental car.
