    Wireless hotspot JONG Q

My Homo-ners, I mean, homeowners dues now includes wifi access for the condom complex.

I can tap into it on my laptop's bluetooth wireless. However I have a stoneage desktop used only for porn, porn and more porn, and some music downloads. I bought a wireless access card for it and installed the thing. I can pick up the signal and it detects the wireless signal at 98%. However when I launch IE it can't pick up any websites.....

JONG Q- How can the wireless card pick up and read the network when I scan for it, yet none is gotten when I launch the browser to go to any URL? And how do I fix it so I can view pornographic images again?

Oh yeah, I tried the troubleshooting page.....nada. The wifi link is also unencrypted.

First of all, tell them you absolutely will NOT pay for this BS until they turn on encryption. That's fucking inexcusable and completely moronic. Also without encryption, people in other buildings or even on the street can use the network for free. And when they get on, they're reducing the bandwith available to you...the person who's paying. The only reason to leave the network unencrypted is for convienence...for really lazy people. All you have to do is enter the network password and such into your computer once. Then it logs on automagically after that.

As for not being able to connect to the net, I assume it has something to do with you networking prefs. In other words, the card is picking up the signal, but the Networking Control Panel isn't configured to pass the network on to the rest of the computer. Just a guess, and I wouldn't know how to set it up. Read the manual, damnit!!!

    Punani,

    You're still in SF?

...I wish I could help you, but I will pass this post to my computer-based cousin who knows all about this crap. Arty is right about the encryption...make sure they get that sorted or you may end up with less than dial-up speed. Hackers could get in, but that's not as likely as your speed issues.

From my apartment, I get around 20 unencrypted connections. People started to use mine, so I renamed my connection to : "fuckoffyouwifiwhore"

    ...damn I'm funny.

If there's a LAN icon in the lower right corner of the screen right-click on it. You might need to switch from your wired LAN to the wireless one. I'm only guessing that because I set up wireless over the weekend and that's what I had to do to get my wife's laptop working.
