used 997 or new 914 lab binders?

    Hi everyone.
I have a good price for either a new solly 914 lab or a slightly used 997 equipe driver bindings (the red one).

Which is preferred? I read the post about the 914 wing issues- do the labs have the same issues?

    thanks for any help.

Depends on the price difference. I ski on the 997s as my inbounds binding of choice and they're the same binding as the STH 14, but they're coming up on no longer being indemnified, which means at best that shops won't work on them and at worst the plastic is actually getting old and possibly brittle.

Not the same as the STH14

997 has a much better toepiece design without the wing issues that plague the S9XX series.

I'd rock the 997s. Just sold all my 914s for that reason.

Another vote for 997's. I've got one pair that has been (converted to 9-16 springs for a light greenspring) running strong for about 8 seasons. Love the old school toe piece and afd.

So in a backwards twisting fall, which model would offer the highest degree of safety to weak knees? 997s or 91x?

If they both have the flat AFD then they would perform identically (assuming they are clean and well-lubed).

Really the symmetrical toe is only a big deal on the internet.
