    The ski dreams have started!

In my dream my friend and I are checking out this great chute off of this snow covered, lonely peak. We are debating which way we would approach from. I say the ridge, he says from the top and I don't understand what he means by that. My dream suddenly jumps to us on top of the mountain next to the one we were looking at. I look up and see a 20 foot gap between us and the peak of the mountain we are hoping to score. My friend suddenly jumps the gap from a stand still with ice axes in hand. He stabs the steep ridge and then one of his axes suddenly tears it's hold free. He is dangling in thin air and I am freaking, but at the same time thinking to myself, "I told you we should have taken the ridge."

Another weird thing: I don't recognize the mountain in my dream.

Am I the friend that's in your dream? Because, if I am, then the mountain is Kirkwood because that's where I ski.

I disagree, slim. I have had dreams of Steamboat and I have never even been to Steamboat... only seen movies of it

Ski dreams kick ass. They are like a 5 minute dose of the real thing...

I've been having ski-related dreams since May...several times a week. I kid you not! They rule.

    Ski Dreams Stop!

I had one the other night involving an avalanche. I was able to get out of the way but others were not. I remember starting a search but thats when I woke up. A little freaky, but a cool dream.

    A little???

Maybe I am glad I really don't remember my dreams for more than about a minute after I wake up.

Mine are always teases...i gear up, buy my ticket, ride the lift, get to the top then suddenly realize i forgot my skis in the car or something else rediculous.
Ive had one wet dream in my life, which was simply incredible, and I would trade it any day for some turns...well, powder turns anyways.
Any psyc majors here? HOW DO I FIX IT???

I have a recurring skiing dream.

I am in Fernie. It is a full moon we are skinning along a ridge line and it is still, silent and I am with my brother and another mate. The powder is above our boots and then the sun starts to creep up and the moon sets.

As it gets light all three of us start skiing down this bowl and it seems so real every time.

It is amazing waking up and knowing that your mind has just been skiing all night. Makes me smile all day and look forward to the next dream.

I probably have skiing dreams about 3 or 4 times a week.

I know we've had this discusion before. But whatever it's still a cool topic. I have dreams like this all the time, get to the top and realize I am wearing my hockey skates or am barefoot. Aww shit! When I do have real skiing dreams I am awesome. I spin and flip off of everything!

I think I'm in the same boat with almost everyone else. The dreams really never stop. The snow just gets deeper and the cliffs bigger. I have the new issue of powder at my side and High life in the DVD player. Life couldn't get much better right now. well as far as August goes

By lucid dreams, do you mean you can control them? As in you know you are dreaming and so you can make anything happen?

I had a Psych teacher in high school that claimed that some native american tribe had developed a way of learning how to control thier dreams, and he stated he could do it. I have tried it but havn't had any luck. Does anyone else know what I am talking about?

I have a recurring dream with the same imaginary resort. It's a really lame place with one big, long gondoler lift next to a road and the snow is always patchy but I always seem to float about 2-3 inches above the surface doing crazy turns. I never crash......keepin' on dreaming.

I had dream about the same place last night. This time it was belting down with snow but it was getting dark. I got my W105's out and decided to go up anyway but realised I couldn't find any socks and decided I couldn't go ??!!??

    What does it all mean?

Just making an example of the fact that the mind can put you in places you have never been if you concentrate hard enough on them... Although a lot of mine are pretty random places that I haven't thought about in weeks.

Semi-lucid dreaming isn't difficult. I can't really explain it, but a lot of times I make semi-conscious decisions in dreams--especially ski dreams. Like which line to take or which table to hit or whatever. Nothing really deep, just reflexive decisions. Try to think in a dream, and you can do it.

But don't call me an idiot if it doesn't work because it's really hard to explain.

Just think gently about the subject as you're falling asleep... works for me. Does anyone find that in their ski dreams they don't notice their turning? I seem to always be doing telemark, which is odd because it knackers me and I'm not good enough to do all my skiing with it, and it dawns on me when I wake up that the turns didn't seem conscious, they were just happening... Anyhoo, about once a fortnight here, often in places I've never been (One I was in Utah, and once I think Squaw). Often the dreams involve being near trees, but not skiing in them, and not very often are they in Europe, which again is odd, as that's where I mostly ski.

Just read an article about this in playboy. Lucid dreams are dreams which can be controlled, but this control comes from the realization that you are dreaming while dreaming. Ever had a dream where you became conscious of the fact that this is not reality? Usually when this occurs we wake ourselves up as a reaction. But to have lucid dreams, one needs to force themselves to remain in the dream. There are a few techniques for doing this.
    1) They call it turning yourself around. Not really sure how this one works, but it is described as spinning 180 degrees back into the dream. It sounds kind of stupid to me, but I suppose this spinning could be flipping or cartwheeling or any sort on mental effort to remain in the dream.
    2) equipment. The author talked about some sort of device you wore over your eyes that detected REM (rapid eye movement) and sent a signal (a sound or flash of light) to let you know you are dreaming. The cost was like 300 bucks and the author said she either ripped it off unconsciously or it woke her up as soon as rem occured.
    3) this one makes i guess the most sense. To control a dream, and Im sure most people have heard this before, one needs to concentrate on having a particular dream. So if you want to ski, visualize skiing while going to sleep. This isnt exactly lucid dreaming, but who gives a shit.
The fact that people have ski dreams it most likely because of #3. Ive been trying it for a while, but apearantly I suck at it. good luck to the rest.

I had an extremely vivid dream last week that I was skiing really deep pow (take into account that I'm from the EC and I've never skied really deep pow) at some mountain in Chicago.

    Weird.....but I'll take it.

I've taught myself to ride better from/in dreams. But my recurring theme involves getting to the top and realizing that I don't have my boots or my board. I always make it down though, somehow. I haven't had my summer snow dreams yet.

Favorite movie on the subject: Waking Life. An animated Linklater (Dazed and Confused) movie. Lots of discussion about lucid dreaming. Personally, I'm able to get myself out of hairy dream situations by forcing myself to turn around and confront who/what ever is chasing me, and I'm aware that I'm dreaming when I do it, force it.
