There is a lot of info about this on here already. Line is made in China. They are part of K2 now.
Thanks, it matters where products are from. I like the gotamas but can't get over the made in china sticker!
Why ask why? Try Bud Dry.
"I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."
I got BD's made in austria and the exact same model 2 year later but made in china ,they fixed all the quirks to make it an improved ski ,the edges are thicker and the bases are flatter ...if there is something inferiour with the PRC made ski I havent found is yet
the reason damn near everything is made in the PRC is COST,Vokil like havent got the ability to manufacter their complete line of skis in China YET .
IMO it really doesnt matter where a product is made anymore ,it only matters that the company made sure things were done right
consider Arcterxy is made in Vancover ... BUT by chinese women
It matters because I have seen and heard more delam with the gotama (made in china) than the mantra (made in germany). It matters because skis made by skiers is a good thing, they care. It matters because most of the labor force in China is paid at poverty levels. It matters because a company SHOULD PAY its employees a living wage! It matters because an honest hard working human being should be able to have home, a family, and maybe even ski!
"Shit, I'll choke her while she's cleaning, and I'll do it wearing a helmet cam mounted on a full-face helmet.
I'll have meatdrink9 do the lighting for the shot. He'll make it artsy as fuck." - Phunk
Just a thought but I think that was why he was asking in the first place.
It was all a whirlwind; freeze and flash.
Within a week we had grabbed our skis and hit the road.
(nothing... a little powder, a little blood.)
all that means is the gotama delam's more than the mantra
I want a ski designed by an skier which is pretty likely ,it doesnt matter if it was made in china /quebec /tunisia or austria and I bet ya there are austrian & german ski factory workers who don't ski cuz its just another widget
every body wants cheap stuff ,they don't want to pay any more than they have to ,I bet the monitor you are looking at is made in china
if it means that much to ya buy prior they are made in whistler
Recent article in the NY Times linked below. It may allay some of your guilt when buying a pair of Gotamas.

damn hippie idealism!
my colorado-made skis are falling apart.
what's your point?
Thanks orthoski!
From the NYTIMES article.
"skilled workers who used to demand UP TO $430 A MOUNTH are eagerly accepting jobs that pay half as much"
This is how business works. Just because something is made in China doesn't mean it is made worse. For those of you who won't buy from china because their employees don't make very much money, consider this:
Fischer has a factory in the Ukraine, their Monthly minimum wage in the Ukraine is 64.67 Euros a Month
Salomon has a factory in Romania where Montly Minimum Wage is 140.64 Euros a Month
Atomic has a factory in Bulgaria where Montly Minimum Wage is 112.49 Euros a Month
The minimum wage in Beijing China is 84.57 Euros a month.
I am not saying that this is the amount the workers in every factory make, but it seems that China is pretty comparable to the wages of Eastern Europe, where you don't care if your skis are made.
I am not writing this so that you quite buying skis from Salomon, Atomic, or Fischer, but to remind you that if you refuse to buy products from China you are just making your life more complicated than it needs to be.
I just had some Dim Sum that was made in New Hampshire. Should I be concerned with the quality? It sure did taste a bit strange.
it used to be folks wouldnt buy from germany or japan because of the WWII thing ,then later on I remember some folks didnt wana buy bikes made in tiawan cuz the bikes made in japan were better quality , I suppose you could refuse to buy american made cars (and some do ) due to inferiour engineering ?
OR maybe you should just support jake ?

^ Achtung... absolutely classic.
I like to buy American skis. I just like to imagine I'm having a skier make my skis. Might not be correct, but it is in my head!
OP: Screw those companies then. Go get some goods from PMgear or Moment skis. Reno, baby.
"She loved snow...That was the simple objective, being airborne, up longer, higher, more casually and with more fuckoff elegance than anyone else...Such endeavours require a kind of egotism, a near autistic narrowness. Everything conspires against you, the habits of physics, the impulse to flee and you're weighted down by every dollop of commonsense ever dished up. Everyone will tell you your goal is impossible, pointless, stupid, wasteful. This idiot resolve is all you have."
-Tim Winton
Why not support the real hard core indie AMERICANs? PM Gear, DPS, etc..? I used to love Volkls/Dynastars but found that the quality and customer service was crap in comparison to the guys who use the Mags' input in their R&D.
