    keystone stunts

Went to Keystone 2 weeks ago and did some DH and "tried" some stunt riding. Thought I'd share some pics.

Most pics are of my wife's boss's son. Whatever

they built a "stunt" park down near the gondy. Had a bunch of good features for a newbie like me to give a try on. I mastered the easy "seesaw" seen with rider on in the pic. They also had a 1/4 pipe that was on a pivot that you ride up and it tilts over. (seen partly on left side of pic)

then here i am with my mad XC steeze

    Done it

I wasn't so happy with the terrain at keystone. They do have some fun things, but not enough. It is nice having the little practice area at the bottom of the mountain, but there was only a couple of wooden structures on the trails to ride. I was pretty bumed out. All I am saying is they need more stunts and more downhill trails.
A gay-rage full of toys. You can guess em.

    Nice pics Crinkle.

Why is it that places are building these trails just to build them, insted of being creative and actually linking unrideable secions, like they were originally built to do?

For the most part you are right about Keystone. They did build a sweet stunt through some tight trees with a fork in it that leads to a 3 ft drop. They were building it when i was there. Other than that most of them were out in the open or wide areas in the trees.

cool that keystone is making the effort, but there just adding more of the same IMO. they need to come up with more creative trails and ways down the mt to make things interesting. stunts are just a bonus and should come later. vail has actually been doing a good job with thier trail building lately, and I was presently suprised by nice berms and a few jumps last time i was there. and like i mentionied they're trails traverse the whole mountain wich really makes things much more intereseting.

CO resorts are starting to see the potential, but definately are not quite there with the trail quality.

btw. those xc steeze are looking solid crinkle. time for a bigger bike

that pic that Hev posted is the one they were adding a fork onto. Instead of going left, you can go straight and it gets skinny if i remember right, then leads to a drop.

    Oh here are some pics

and this drop coming out of the woods spits you off the bottom scary fast, but so fun i did it twice

Those look fun. Not that I know anything about ramps and bridges since nobody out here in SoCal does any of it, but I'm glad to see they at least elevated those a bit to make it more interesting.

I just rode at Mammoth last weekend, and their new trail is an absolute joke, with some of the worst conceived doubles and no attempt to even try and be creative. Cool to see other resorts start to figure out that what Whistler has going is a good thing and are at least attempting to emulate it. Now, if we could just get the morons at Big Bear and Mammoth to do the same.

I believe that Keystone sent thier trailbuilders up to Whistler/North Shore areas to do some research and learn from their builders prior to this year. Hopefully they will get more progressive and build more fun stuff for next year.

Good on 'em. That was smart.

I think Mammoth had their guys play Excite Bike and get inspired from that.
