    I'm finally leaving Mt. Hood!

So after experiencing the worst job and boss of my life, I'm sooooooo stoked to finally be leaving dirtbag central (AKA Government Camp, OR)....

Now if my boss (the king of the dirtbags) would just show up to give me my final check I could actually leave......

I've been now waiting 3 days to get it, and he's been avoiding it at all costs. I'm seriously ready to call down the keg of whoop ass (3 friends that look for any excuse to beat the shit out of people) to persuade him a bit more.

It has been fun to get an extra 70 days in on the mountain this summer, but holy shit it's been painful.

Here's to hoping he doesn't so I can watch my friends beat my final paycheck out of him.

    [/rant]

I just want to go back to utah dammit!

No seattle stopover for ya? Man that sucks about the cash. But let us PNWr's know when the beat down is about to occur so we can crack open a beer and watch the carnage.

canon anounced a new digi SLR 8.5 mega pixel that does 5 fps for 20 frames and has a sugested retail of only $1500.00 so actual street price should be close to 1300.00 they also anounced a new pro flash the 580ex, and 2 new medium level ultra wide digi lenses. BUT my sources tell me this is just the begining, canon ususally anounces at least one new time durring hte olympics, but usually waits till photokina in october to anounce most of its new stuff, there rummered to anounce 2 more new camera bodies at photokina, inlcuding a dslr for 650.00

SQUIRELL-----I CAN'T AFFORD TO GO TO LENAS!!!!!! DAMMIT STOP TAUNTING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MBS - yah, just found that one out. I think I might be getting that 20D and the 10-22 lens they announced.......but I still can't make my mind up for sure. It's sooooo cheap for what you get, but I still want the MKII 1D......but it's so much more money. But maybe this might drive the price of the MKII down....hopefully. Either way I'm gonna have a 8mp DSLR by the time it starts snowing.

You ever gonna buy a DSLR?
BTW, nice shot of BakerBeyyotch in Powder

Unfortunately, that attitude runs rampant anywhere near Mt. Hood in the Summer. Even the lifties think they are something special.

Conditions are pretty rough. Not much snow left, although much better than last summer. The public park is pretty narrow, but it's still there, not many racer camps going on either, so there's lots of open lanes for laying some slushy turns down. It's also very warm with temps up on the mountain in the mid 60's - 70's.

MBS - What kind of speed are we talking for the 1DS replacement?? And what kind of costs are we talking about??

I need to make a decision very soon on what I upgrade to, I want to get something new very soon. Dammit, I've been hemming and hawwing about what DSLR camera body to buy in Aug-Sept for the last 3 friggin years now! Why can't they announce this shit in July!

The 1ds has only been rumoured, so nothing for sure yet, but ive been told that it will be full frame, 14mp, with 8.5-9 fps for 40 frames. So if it is true this may very well be the first dslr that i buy, but it is only speculation now, and it will probally be really really fucking overpriced, personally i wouldnt buy anything untill after photokina in october, as that is when everything else will get anounced if the other rumors are true. Also Nikon is supposed to have several new bodies out including a few new pro level dslrs to rivial the new canons.

you don't get much time to ski, you hike around windells looking for these spoiled little shits, listen to them whine about anything, and sit on the radio trying to find the coaches so you can find the kids you are supposed to shoot. adding to your lack of skiing.

oh, the pay sucked, you paid rent, and you came out with enough money to do........NOTHING WITH.

The guy that ran the photo program there is Robert Knapp, (AKA, Captain Dirtbag, Sgt. Cheapass, Admiral Fatty Banger). If an opportunity comes up to work for him run like hell away from him, or find him and give him a kick in the balls with your ski boots for me.

Are there any other jobs that I would be able to get that would allow more skiing next summer. Is there any way to just bum it all summer and work for the resort?

I did a (race) camp at Hood long ago, and there was a guy whose job I always thought I might want--it sucked in some ways, but he got to ski every day (more or less), with coaching. He was in charge of making breakfast for everyone and making sure snacks (Powerbars and PB+Js to be assembled) were ready for campers. He was probably also in charge of doing more salting than most people, and some other stuff, but it wasn't all that much to do (I think). Of course, he did have to be up before 5 every morning for breakfast.
The guy was sort of a nimrod, and didn't seem that happy with his job, but I didn't see it as excessively demanding or undesirable. I'm sure there are other camps that might have something like that available.
The camp was back in 92, and there wasn't a single terrain park, or even jump outside of a mogul lane, at all of Mt. Hood. It was pretty strange to see the little moonscape of wall-to-wall terrain parks that had sprouted when I went back 10 years later (also the number of snowboarders--92 I saw maybe three snowboarders in 10 days).

The theory on it is that 6mp per colour channel will give the (effective) performance of film, so if they're getting up to 14mp, you might want to hang back for a turn or two of the wheel while they come up with the 18mp... Also, if you're going for a fast framerate, you might want to look at the size of the chips. Many of the higher capacity chips coming out (In the pro-am, I'd suppose the Minolta A2 would be consider quite high) and being constructed based on general chip manufacturing style, of getting smaller and smaller. This gives very high noise, so you'd be looking (I would've thought) not only for the 18mp, but also in a larger chip size (A la the Nikon D100/70 chips which, while having less data, give better shots if you're not into Photoshopping)

Actually this isnt really true. and if you read my other posts, the 1ds and the new version of it will be a full frame sensor, wich is larger than anything nikon minolta or olympus have ever manufactued. as far as resolution goes for a 8x10 print 3.2mp will give the same resolution as a traditional print made from film. a 20x30 would need 18mp. As far as color goes 6mp per color chanel is bs, and the thoery that you need 18mp for the same color info as film is also bs. mega pixles only determine the cameras resolution, as far as color details goes, it depends on the bit depth of each pixel. Most digis have a bit depth of only 8 wich provides ok color, the newer cmeras have a bit depth of 16, while film is around 32. But color depth realy isnt a hudge concern, photoshop could not even work with color depths greater than 8 until CS came out and now its limited to a color depth of 16
