Yup - there's an inch or so of snow up high in Summit County, rain down low. The clouds hanging around everywhere are beautiful. And it's green like the pacific northwest.

    I like it.

And we'll ski powder in September.

There's a lot of great terrain in Colorado, but terrrain is only as good as the snow that covers it.Crested Butte,A-Basin,Aspen Highlands,Silverton all have great terrain..Years ago they proposed to put a lift in from the bottom of Highlands up to the top of Steeplechase, that would be 4400 Vert of really steep terrain.Ajax has pitch,so does Hanging Valley Headwall at Snowmass.

The cultural differences have kept me from moving there so far.I have a lot of great friends in Sandy that always encourage me to move there. They say Sandy is it's own little fiefdom ,& most mormons don't ski.And lets face it,when you see an Alta girl rip it up,there's few things like it.I know this very attractive woman that is a ski instructor at Alta,& watching her non stop Hi-boy is the definition of sensuality.

It's weird to drive into Utah & see a billboard with the mormon equivalent of the Village People on it with the caption,"Real men don't use porn" . The alcohol issue is strange as well.I have a salty statement about poligamy & the marriage of very young girls, but discretaion states that is better left for less public forums.

I just of the opinion that I don't want to tell others what to do any more than I want them to tell m what to do!

board, it was humor nothing more. Front Rangers consider Summit County their personal playground (afterall, that's what it says on the roadsigns). We are entitled to a little reverse 'tude in humor. Mine was referring to a few seasons back when Denver Water's poor management and insufficient water restrictions contributed to there being a MILE walk from Frisco Marina to the water's edge.

Anyone with a true "go back to Denver" attitude needs a reality check. Tourism is our bread and butter. When it dumps, we do kinda hope I70 closes though

That would be cool... although it wouldn't address the snow issues. It could make other problems...

    Nevertheless I like it here.

Snow problems, but I have a good feeling about this season... OTOH Ullr will fuck us again.

I'm pretty sure that SC is the abrv. for South Carolina.

Somewhat county has plenty of challenging skiing.

South Carolina on the other hand, not so much.

Where? Summit County (since I've been outed for using SC) resorts are pretty uninspiring. Ever notice how there's an inverse relationship between good terrain and good terrain parks?

    Backcountry.
Inbounds? A-Basin, otherwise, you gotta know where to look.

A couple hundred vert here, a couple hundred vert there. Still not inspiring.

As for real backcountry (not heavily skied access gate terrain), the snow pack isn't condusive to going after it during mid season.

In all due respect, Mountain Junkie (I've never seen you ski), but have you ever done the alleys at Abasin or the lines of off North Pole? If you can top to bottom those runs without being challenged, then you are an all star!

Hey BZ, the Junkie skied a fucking climbing route on Long's Peak this year, I'm sure he's not 'inspired' by a steep 500 vert shot (north pole) and some rutted out mogul bashing (alleys).

'Inspiring' and 'difficult' are very different.

Get over it, in-bounds skiing blows goats for quarters. Anything that is steep gets bumped out in like an hour.

There are a few good ones, CB, JH, W/B, AltaBird, Squaw. Besides that, the rest fucking suck, quit lying to yourself. OB is where it's at, which CO has plenty of.

No credit at all for Blue Sky? It's not that big, but there is definitely some really fun stuff back there. What do you think, Mr. Vail-local Elevens?

Otherwise, I agree strongly--go elsewhere for good terrain (the few Blurred mentioned are a pretty good start...)

Edit: "fun" and "challenging" are again two different things, though they very often coincide.
    Days on snow 06-07: 3
    Days behind a boat summer 2006: 24

FUN maaaybe, but not at all steep or challenging...in comparision to W/B, JH types

There's this one shot - I think it might be called cougar point. Very good pitch - three times as long as steep and deep and there's a big, perfect huck rock in the middle of it. Not that hard to get too either - just a traverse through the woods.

And I've seen great stuff just out of bounds on the other side as well...

Blue Sky Basin... AKA Blue Square basin... AKA Flat Sky Basin...
I was very underwhelmed by it.

Reports of significant snow in the Hoosier Pass area... couple of inches... Shera, you should drive up there and check it out... feel free to speed since all the flashy siren types should be at Farmers Korner

I live basically at the bottom of the pass - I'll have a look tomorrow
