please continue on this "jeeps suck" thing. ive always been strangely attracted to them and jealous of those who drive them just because of their offroad abilities n such and b/c i think they look pretty sweet
They do have a few good points - remove doors/roof to cruise the beach/show off the bass from your subs and half-decent off road capabilities, but the bad outweighed the good in my experience.please continue on this "jeeps suck" thing.
The fuel economy is terrible, the short wheelbase means they are brutal on the highway - handling is terrible, the body shape leads them to get blown all over the road if its windy and icy (think any drive to a ski area), very little space for gear, not at all comfortable on longer trips, noisy(even with the hard-top) - basically, its 1940's technology in 2003.
Considering the Subies can go pretty much anywhere the Jeep can, but with good fuel economy, sports car handling, lots of room for gear, comfortable seats, etc and are about the same price...
I saw a Rubicon roll straight up Moab Rim last weekend (stopping frequently to wait for all the Land Rovers in his group that couldn't keep up and kept breaking stuff). I'd say it was a lot better than "half-decent off road".Originally posted by PlayHarder
half-decent off road capabilities...
Anyway, we're talking totally different things here. If you love to drive mountain roads (paved or gravel) fast, then get a Subaru (I have one and it makes perfect sense for the mountain commute). If you want to go 4 wheeling, (i.e. slow but you can get over all sorts of stuff that doesn't look driveable) get a Jeep. Personally, I'd be happy with one of each...![]()
yeah i guess you got a point.Originally posted by PlayHarder

what about say the jeep liberty or cherokee?
I'll give you older models - cj-7's are awesome and new ones can be modded up for that (although you pretty much lose any highway ability). But even for this type of driving, there are way better options. I'll ignore the reference to Land Rovers, good for a SUV, but not a true off-roader. Think of an older Bronco or Jimmy- the poor Jeep wouldn't know what hit it and as, a bonus, you can rig a pretty nice sleeping compartment in the back of those. If you want to go 4 wheeling, (i.e. slow but you can get over all sorts of stuff that doesn't look driveable) get a Jeep.![]()
Sorry, its just I spent too much cash that could have had much better on one. Subie dealer wouldn't even take it on trade, said they'd had so many come in, they couldn't sell them. I've had vehicles that did everything - from slow-speed, cut-line climbs to highway - better and for less money.
who the hell would want the sedan anyhow? the wagon is way better and is a bit more low profile. plus the rear seats fold down which can act as a makeshift bed. awww yeahhh!
they could have spent all that extra coin on ski gear or if you are a car nut, on parts to make the car go faster vs. look all riced out.
i bet i'll see it at the squaw parking lot. no no wait at boreal. haha

I have a 2003 WRX and love it. This car, however... I don't like the lights. The Alteza/Euro lighting look is getting kinda old to me. My rex has smoke headlight covers so they're darker than the stock housings, blend better with the car (it's black), and give it a more custom look. Plus this car's exhaust would be waaay to loud, with the GReddy and coffee-can muffler. My little Suub has a GReddy catback and even that alone is super loud (it used to belong to my friend before I inherited it, so the exhaust wasn't my choice) Plus, this guy should invest in window tints
Whoever said the STi didn't come with a radio is correct. There is no reciever, speakers, or audio wires. So if you get one and want stereo, you need to invest tons of money to wire everything, get the amps and fuses and all..
