Hello:

If any one is interested in volunteering for 5 hours on Sunday, Sept
19... this should be fun. See attached.

The RTD, in conjunction with the Denver Police Department, the Denver
Fire Department and the State of Colorado, is conducting a
terrorism/emergency response field training exercise on Sunday, 09/19/2004.
Volunteers are needed to participate in this exercise. Please review the
attached volunteer fact sheet for additional details and, if interested, to
register as a volunteer.

If this is the planned regional MCI exercise at Summit High School, IIRC, they are wanting volunteer victims for a WMD MCI exercise. Anyone who is an EMT, OEC, or WFR, it would provide a good view as to how a II & III alarm MCI is handled as well as START traige (if they skipped that in your class). Don't wear your favorite clothes to this exercise.

If it's not at SHS, more info Shera? It still probably is similar. And they still need volunteers for the regional SHS MCI exercise.

MCI=Mass Casualty Incident
WMD=Weapons of Mass Destruction
EMT=Emergency Medical Technician
OEC=Outdoor Emergency Care
WFR=Wilderness First Responder
SHS=Summit High School (as previously mentioned)

edit: forgot START=Simple Triage And Rapid Triage

Anyhow, any medical or patroller mags, that (or other) is a good opportunity. Anyone else, either should be fun and they need volunteers. They always need volunteers for stuff like this. Real bodies are more fun and challenging than plastic dummies.

Here's a little more of a teaser:

Think about it though... the terrorists have scared the people who live on the coasts and the big cities. Want to scare the small cities and the West/Midwest? Pick a less populated area. Want to maximize the effect? Pick a target that everyone has visited: Summit County.

Also, they have to do *something* with the gobs of homeland security money.

We have MCIs from things other than terrorism. Bus wrecks (one happend 2 years ago on Kenosha Pass with something like 40 casualties). Sometimes the Loaf and Jug Conoco gas station just goes and blows up... no kidding! It happened 8-4-04. 8 casualties and they closed Frisco Main Street for hours. I've filled my car several times at the pump that blew (for info, search the archives at www.summitdaily.com ) Here's my pics:

The funny thing is that the homeland security money is so misappropriated that unpopulated Wyoming shit towns have state of the art training and anti-terrorism equipment, why not throw some more cash at NYC, et al?

If you are intersted in being a volunteer victim for the MCI exercise at Summit High School tomorrow (Friday), pm me and I'll give you the # to call. Volunteers will be needed from 0830-1400. The scenario will be a radiological incident (science fair project gone wrong).
