    Question Best New England Hikes?

Need to take a break this weekend and figured I could get in a few good hikes. What does the new england crew recommend? Was thinking about Mt. Adams/Jefferson(knock off some more 4000footers). Anything off the beaten path that is really sweet? Done camels hump, mansfield and washington in the past month so I thought Id try something new.

Anything good in the Laurentians? Its tempting to jump in the car and drive up to Gaspe, but I think its a little over 10 hours...road trip anyone?

    Go climb Katahdin, I'd say.

Otherwise, Chicoutimi, Greylock and Monadnock are all nice hikes.

check out Mt. Monadnock in NH, its around 3100 ft, so its not really a bad climb at all, should take you about 3 hours round trip, its a fun hike though and the last bit is all rock ledges so its kind of cool.

    from some website:
"2. Difficulty: A trail that is not too easy but not too difficult to hike. A moderately steep hiking trail so that one feels a sense of accomplishment at the summit but has not been beaten to a pulp with an unceasingly steep trail."

check it out man, and let us know.

I'd like to do Khatadin again, but I dont know if I want to do it alone. Also I'm a little weary of ice and snow up there. Falling off knife's edge isnt too appealing. Cant wait to do next summer though, its one of the best hikes around.

I'll check out Monadock on saturday, and depending on weather give some other mountains in the whites a shot

D'oh! I meant Chocorua, not Chicoutimi. Chicoutimi is cool, but it's in Canada. Chocorua is a nice hike in NH, plug it into google.

On third thought, this time of year I'd drive out to Nauset, park at Coast Guard, Marconi or Head of the Meadow (somewhere out there, depending on how far you felt like hiking), hitch up to Race Point, and hike the beach all the way back. That would be good for your head, oh yeah it would.

Do Carter Dome, its in the presidentials right near Mount Washington. Rainbow trail, its a killer. Make sure you go counter clockwise to the peak.

If you're going to hike when there's no snow on the ground, you might as well go scope out a place where you can ski once it starts snowing.

    Possibilities include:

    1. Mt. Mansfield
    2. Camel's Hump
    3. Tuckerman's or King Ravine (light snow cover already)
    4. Cannon
    5. Anywhere off Kankamangus Highway

And since you're in Hanover, Moosliauke is a good hike, and from what I hear, decent skiing in the winter. The Dartmouth Outing Club runs the lodge at the base of the mountain so, if you're hungry, just go in there and tell them you're somehow affilliated with Dartmouth - otherwise they won't serve you. Bastards.

He goes to Dartmouth, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

    I second Carter Dome.
    Shaweet hike.

I know the AMCers would shoot me, but that MT looks like it could have been a KILLER ski mt. It looks like there may even be some chutes you could currently ski, on the ramparts side.
