No he really is that good. I actually witnessed the warping fabric of the space time continuum due to his incredible awesomeness on the day of that photo shoot. It's called Stephen Hawking Steeze... Tanner hasn't perfected it yet... so he's super jealous.

    Oakley sucks.

seriously, how about some quality control or something. can we sue for false advertising? ie, "i bought these a-frames and this silly snowsuit, but still can't traverse the time/space continuum."
    fine

There's even worse stuff out there. Have you seen the new freeze? The rossignol ad may be the lamest thing I've ever seen. Horrible photoshop. Horrible concept. Just lame. I wish skiing design had even 1/4 the style that snowboard graphic design has.

Also, that orange camo jumpsuit oakley had it's pros wearing last year was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Jon's on the cover of freeze wearing the thing. WTF were they thinking.

Next up.....Spyder's ads with CR. The jacket looks sweet. A huge improvement from last years's gear, but the "sequence" of him above his head is completely fake. It's the same image repeated and tilted slightly in each frame. That's really weak.

About half the ads in FREEZE have nothing to do with skiing. That probably means they're doing well. Overall powder beyond destroyed freeze out of the gates. Not even in the same category.

Oh yeah, the same shot of pollard appears about 6 times in the mag. For scott gloves, for line skis, for yearbook, and maybe just for editorial. It was everywhere.

yeah that olsson sequence is photoshop gone bad. i noticed too. though to the non critical eye i think it would go off with out a hitch.

and yeah the snowboard industry is way ahead in terms of design. i think faction skis does a pretty damn fine job of keeping it fresh, but that's to be expected when the company founder is also a designer. and the bro graphics should be mentioned too

Yeah, mang. Just got it yesterday and while I'm no artist, I took a double take on that ad and just gawked at it. It was soooo poor that I couldn't tell if it was an illustration or a picture.

    How about this?

Do you guys like the ad I made for Smith (that they didn't like) of JT's jump in Twin Falls?

I do like it, Lane...except I agree with Meaty...too many skiing ads have nothing to do with skiing. Just my $.02

Rev - yeah, I agree too, If I wanna see pictures of some 14 year old representing his "gangsta steeze" with headphones and a puffy on, I'll pick up a copy of Vice, not Powder.

I just thought it was cool that JT jumped with waterskis and did a mute grab. Nutty fucker. Sure pissed off the BASE community, though. Those guys take the online flaming WAY too far.

that ad was pretty shitty. but so are the other two ads before it. wutz fucked up is that the pic was from stuben austria. in real life he jumped in the alpine, but they superimposed it to make it look like it was below tree line, w/ stuben in the background. check out my buddies pic of that jump before the photoshopping.

Cross over with the Upper Midwest hunting/ATV crowd?

Last year Jon Olsson's ad for Head was a soft focus lens "head shot" that made him like a chick. Terrible. That dude needs to exercise some creative control before the spancers ruin his "image".

All right, I'll admit it. I have no idea what you guys are talking about when it comes to that Oakley ad. Maybe I'm partially blind, maybe I'm overlooking something, but the sequence seems pretty normal to me. Clue me in.

I will say this though; I'm totally ashamed to admit to being a Rossi fan after that ad on page 19. What a waste of money. I have friends who don't ski, and who probably never will ski who could design a better ad. Do I see an original Nintendo? And hey, it's 4:20, brah - hardcore!

I'm with sponsored... the ad surely made me have a double-take and look more closely, at which point I concluded that it was just a really big booter. Why is that Oakley ad so impossible?

And just so I am positively sure that I get flamed: I kinda liked the Rossi ad. Surely it was a waste of money and did nothing to promote the Bandits, but it hit home with me, considering that my entire room is total disaster except for my ski closet, which is in perfect order. (Oh, and I wish I had that Nintendo for Duck Hunt. That game was fun...)

Uh, there are snowlerblades in the rossi ad. They just switch the skis and the snowlerblades for Snowblades Magazine. I would know, as I am a devoted subscriber.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about with the Oakley ad.

I also have no idea what you are talking about in regards to the Pollard pic.

I do however think the rossi as is dumb..but come on people they are ads, who cares.

I think every skier mentioned in this thread rocks the freaking house. Jon, Tanner, and Pollard are hands down my favorite jibbers. Its the mag FREEZE and the quality of ads / cheesiness of product that most are scrutinizing.

I think Greydon was right about the skiers needing some creative control.
