I like quite a few others. But for play by play in multiple sports. Who is better?

Mike Patrick's Sunday Night football PBP is pretty damn good, he almost makes Joe Theisman and Paul Macguire bearable.

the Score's coverage of the Bears is great.

ESPN's Hockey and Baseball is solid too.

Woodsy, wouldn't it be great if we could get some commentators that lecture on the social ills of greed, capitalism, and inequality. That would really add to my viewing and listening pleasure.

Hey NBC, the U.S. isn't the only country in the Olympics, ya know ... how about seeing some awesome athletes from outside the U.S. compete?

    For example, the Chinese divers.

I'm watching CBC from now on unless I miss an event I really wanted to see.

I could really care less about the announcers for the opening ceremonies, but I must admit that Couric and Costa cr4acked me up with their dialogue about Oedipus Rex killing his father to have a relationship with his mother, and Costas stating "a chain of events that rarely ends well"

And as for Phelps. He didn't even swim that well. If you had four Phelps' on the relay they probably wouldn't have even medaled. The third and fourth guys on the U.S. team were both much faster than Phelps...
...Crocker, suffering from a sore throat, had such a slow leadoff (50.05) that the Americans were in eighth place. They were nearly two seconds behind South Africa by then.

Phelps followed in 48.74 and Neil Walker in 47.97 on the next two legs.

"They had to cut through the waves to get us back in the race," Reese said.

Jason Lezak anchored in 47.86 but was overhauled by van den Hoogenband...
As you'll notice (and already know if you watched last night) Phelps wasn't the one who hurt his team. Had Crocker swum his normal time, or FESSED UP TO BEING SICK and been replaced by Hall, we would have had a very different outcome. Phelps went into the pool dead LAST. Walker went in in 4th place. I'd say the kid did hid job.

nice call Tipp. That race was over at the first flip turn. I thought he was going to get the WR. An under estimated feat, since the fastest are usually swimming the anchor.

The U.S. anchor slowed way down in the last 20 meters of the race, he felt the dutch presence and tried to speed up wich made his strokes shorter and not as efficent.

The coach knew he was sick. What can you do? Neither him or the coach knew he would swim that poorly.

It was a real tough call for the U.S. coach Eddie Reese to put Crocker in there rather than Hall. The thing is Crocker was second at Trials and he has the world record in the 100 meter free short course. So kind of tough to leave him off if he thought he was ready to go. Hall swam pretty well in prelims, but not fast enough to really ensure a spot. I'm a little biased though, since I can't stand Gary Hall.

Hindsight is always 20-20 for the people criticizing Reese's decision. Honestly I don't think the U.S. team would have been close to the South Africans regardless of who they had in there.

Enough about that race. Tonight's action was good. I expected Thorpe to win the 200 free and he did. The real disappointment was Krayzelburg finishing out of the medals by something like .02 in the 100 back. Coughlin pulled it out, but damn, the other girl made it very close at the end.

My favorite sportscastor is Mike Lange of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The man is in the NHL hall of fame as a broadcaster for a reason.
Bill Hilgrove, who calls the Steelers radio as well as University of Pittsburgh football and basketball, is also great. The man has more class then just about anybody on the air.
I would love to be able to hear Harey Carey call some games but I was born too late.

On the national scene Al Michaels is pretty good, but Jon Madden just plain sucks. He may have been a good coach and has good knowledge of the game, but he just sounds like a dumbass. "And theres big hit boom tough actin tinactin ace is the place for how did he do that when a man loves a woman and he has bad athlete's foot and how do you like that back to you Al..."

The best broadcaster's on a national level are all Canadian. Darren Pang, Barry Melrose, and the rest of the ESPN hockey dudes are all great at what they do.
I'm in a band. It's called "Just the Tip."

Maine native Gary Thorne is excellent.

Gotta love the Rem Dawg (Jerry Remy) if you watch Red Sox games.

I pretty much can't stand costas calling a game anymore-as someone said, he gets into too much other shit. But his hbo show is pretty good-he generally has good guests and does a good job on the interviews.

The other thing I've noticed is he's had some cosmetic surgery done. He doesn't look like he can even blink!
