OK, so I love the response of them but so far I am very unimpressed with the adjustments available. How do you keep the disk from rubbing? I mean I have tried loosening the position bolts while holding the brake closed to center it but it just seems that the clearance between the pads and the disk is too small. They rub - but just barley. Wheel still spins but I don't want them touching AT ALL. Running XT hydraulic disk (this years) with integrated rapid rise pods. Seems like everybody I know with disks has these same small issues. I wanted to order the bike with Vbrakes but it was not available with the component group I wanted. I know the disk could be warped but after only 300 or 400 miles, it seems pretty early.

sounds like yours aren't properly aligned.

take it to a shop.

I have never used those before so I can't offer advice. I thought that they were designed to have a self centering float system. If they are not offering enough learance I would bring them back to the shop and get them to do a bit of tinkering.

Bite thy tongue. Even the world cup racers use discs nowadays.

remove the wheel

inseart a screwdriver or cone wrench between the pads

press the brake lever in

As you release the lever, slowly, twist the wrench outwards to open the pads more.

try that.


Also you can straighten the rotor a bit with a cressent wrench done almost all the way up, just side it on and bend as needed (look at the pads to see which way it rubs.

overall, ya they might rub a bit.

If you want to trade them for some V brakes, you just let me know.

you may need to reset the pistons, which i beleive mtlion is working towards.
problem with his method is you can "dent" the brake pad by inserting a screwdriver/wrench b/w them, which can then cause uneven wear on the rotor.

i recommend removing the brake pads, when when you look inside you will see a round piston with a stem in the middle. if the piston is not flush with the housing then the pads will not have a sufficient gap b/w them for the rotor.

so take a small wrench and work the piston back til it is flush with its housing, being careful not to break the center piece to which the pad attaches. you will have to work both sides of the piston back and forth til it takes.

or you can do it mtlions way and risk damaging your pads.

Never pull your brake lever when you have the wheel off.
