Bruce Tremper from the Utah Avalanche Center is having a chilled out get together at the Wild Rose ski shop Wednesday (Jan 14th) at 7pm. He will be talking about a possible new tool for reading avalanche terrain and is really hoping to get some feedback, especially from beginners and intermediates.
You can read more about it on Examiner.com The link is in my signature. . .
There is also info on another avalanche talk at the SLC REI that's on Thursday night. Worth checking out. . .
Yea, they were cryptic about it but it was revealed at the talk that the Utah Avalanche Center is creating a map of the Wasatch Mountains that highlight safe and dangerous routes through the mountains.
I suppose that if the danger rating is high, then you would use the color coded map to determine what slopes to avoid on the day based on elevation, aspect and history of avalanching.
I think it would be a useful tool, especially for beginners and intermediates who are not very falimiar with the terrain.
