I have only done SJ in March. Cold, but not compared to Wyoming. What do you veterans think for a date? Maybe we can get at least one permit with all of us applying. I was thinking later in the year, because at the time I thought I was going to be employed at my current job, and I would have enough buffer time between winter and then to justify a week off. Now, the job is going to hell, so I will probably be either unemployed, or working somewhere in Colorado/Utah.

One of the best campsites I've had was on a sandbar island in the middle of the Chitina on a kennicott-copper trip. At least a quarter mile to shore on either side, probably 250k cfs, 34 degree glacial silt, and a clear, 100 degree pool right in the middle of the island.
