The only ski area in the PNW to get snow has now been cut off by rivers overflowing their banks and taking out bridges (and lives - bless them all).

Washington's snow level is at 12,000 feet.

Marysville schoolteachers continue the longest strike in state history.

    The Seahawks won.

    I didn't win the lottery.

Democratic presidential candidates Lieberman and Clark have given up campaigning in Iowa.

The Sonics won in preseason play against the Kings.

my brother got a fresh new job at the the american alpine club (AAC) library in golden, co -- check it out:

    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...&threadid=1425

call him (Dan) and the other helpful librarians (or stop by for a tour if you're in golden) for any of those burning questions you cant find an answer for here!

he is getting paid to read mountaineering guidebooks/maps/history and sort through boxes of brad washburn pics! hes been reading about ski mountaineering routes that include belay-ing with skis. never heard of that.

in other news, (1) it is dry as a bone in tahoe. =(

    (2) did anyone listen to howard stern this morning? in the "smartest stripper in america" contest, neither contestant could spell the word "skiing." one said "sking" and the other said "skeeng." to her credit, the one who said "skeeng" was european and learned english by reading playboy.

    (3) work is boring. skiing is not. post a little sumthin-sumthin!!

Wettest day on record, ever, at SeaTac. 3.5 inches as of 5:30 and still coming down.

Yeah, I chuckled when I heard that - many a maggot have the same problem. My favorite maggot spelling is definitely.

To all the PNW maggots: you all realize that one inch of rain is equal to approximately one foot of snow, right? And you all realize that we had more than 4 inches of rain, right? So, had the snow level NOT been at 12 million miles (fucking pineapple express), the mountains could have conceivably opened in a couple short weeks.

Oh well. At least the top of Rainier got dumped on. looks like I'll be hiking it again, early season before the lifts open. I'll get better pics this time.

The Tolt River just tied the 3rd biggest flood record which was set in December of 1998. It's howling out there, 3 foot diameter trees klonking around as they go baling by in the raging flood, crashes and sheets of rain.

Oh yes, we're all well aware of that. With the water content in the snow that usuallly falls on the Cascades it's probably more like ten inches, but that's splitting hairs when you consider the amount of rain we got today

Its 3:30 am, burning the midnight oil trying to finish up a research proposal due at noon tomorrow. Gotta get out of here this weekend, hopefully I can find some snow to ski on.

Snow level drops to 3,000 feet on Thursday/Friday. Lets hope we still have some precip.

Well let's see. After taking the day off yesterday, lounging around like a lazy ass, and then going out for Monday night football, ribs, and a couple of supurb manhattans, I am sitting here at my desk bored out of my mind.

Bering Sea red king crab season ended today...14 million pound quota should be reached. 1 dead, 1 vessel overturned, all 5 crew accounted for. Gale force winds all season (4 days). Some crewmen made over 60k gross...some none...some just happy to be alive to go home to their families.
