Last season switched to Bolle photochromatic. Durable lenses, great in low light and if sun comes out does not matter. Had great luck for two seasons. PM me and I can give you a code/link to get a pair for like around $50.

+1. "Best goggle" begs the question, for which conditions? I just went through this and settled on Bolle Vermillion Modulator lens -- it's as good as any for bright conditions and in low light, to my eyes it's 90-95% as good as the Smith Sensor Mirror or Oakley H.I. Yellow that are consensus "best" low light lens. So on all but pure storm days I'll wear the Bolle's and when its coming down I wear Sensor Mirror. FWIW I picked up Bolles for $50 or so at prolens.com, scored a pair of sensor mirros cheap on gear swap here - under $100 for the combo.

I usually go to the big family sports store and score the 5 year old Smiths for $19.99, ILL.

me too. way better than the Zeal polarized/photochromatic on storm days, not as good on bluebird days, but they work fine. I am more worried about seeing on storm days than bright days.

I don't think polarization would do anything for flat light conditions. Light is scattering everywhere and the amount filtered from the light reflected from the surface of the snow would be quite a small effect. Blue blocking is the more important filter.

I don't have much more to add. I buy median priced goggles. I've had Smith's (lenses scratched up), Oakleys (foam fell apart) and my current are Axiom/Burton (so far so good). They've all worked equally well in the typical Whistler whiteout. No problems with fogging and they all tend to let wind through at high speed making my eyes water. All cylindrical lenses. Maybe I'm just used to the fishbowl effect.

I've been using Adidas Robin goggles for more than 10 years without any complaints. No fogging, excellent peripheral vision. They were one of the first to incorporate spherical lenses (which I find help my vision when skiing during all light conditions.) Can't comment on the Smith/Oakley debate, but I've been happy with these Adidas goggles.

Zeal Detonator SPP user here, they have been great from flat light to bluebird conditions - a bit pricey, as you could probably pick up two great quality googles for the same price. I didn't have any issues from quick transitions between sun and shade. I had to try a few pairs to get the right fit, so I agree with the advice above. However, I would like to test some Oakley/Smith dedicated flat-light condition lenses for comparisons sake.
