i might have considered dropping the iso to 100, manually play with white balance (probably sunny and set the degrees, note: i just play with white balance because im no expert at setting the "degrees"???), and if you could close the aperture and probably use either a polarizer or nd filter. complete noob here myself, so use some others advice as well.

Yeah at that time of day I'd worry less about the filter issues and first get started with basic exposure stuff. Ignore the filter advice for now.

First thing, in photo review, hit the DISP button until you get a basic histogram. You don't need the one with each RGB channel, just the B&W diagram. Leave that on your camera and never change it except to show photos to friends. This is your primary exposure feedback tool. Go on Google and look for basic information about what the histogram is telling you. It's very easy once you learn it. You'll learn to quickly identify if you are over/under exposing and blowing out highlights (pure white, no detail information) or crushing shadow detail (pure black, no detail information).

Second thing, to get the water to all flow together you need a longer exposure - so you have to get the camera to record MORE light than it normally needs. Going up to ISO100 will increase the amount of light required by the sensor, allowing you to get that shutter open for longer. Try shooting these in Tv mode at various shutter speeds to get the water effect you want. Use exposure compensation (Av +/-) to try to get it dialed.

Third thing. Wait it out until after 7 PM and keep shooting throughout. As they say, arrive early, stay late. You'll see the light balance between the sky and water constantly changes ... somewhere in between is that magic spot where they are just in balance and you can get a nice shot with exactly the shutter speed you want, whether it's a 1/2 sec or 10 seconds.

Compare results and look at time of day, aperture, shutter, and ISO settings. You'll get it dialed soon enough!

CS that photo kicks ass! If there is one thing I am hopeless at it is setting up bad ass indoor shots like that.

Sage is 4 months and a couple weeks so Mrs. Uglymoney and I introduced her to solid food tonight. She loved the food and so did the dog

I need a real flash on my camera, but oh well. Event captured.

first attempt at trying to use this 2 stop filter thingy...

still ended up blending 2 exposures to get the look I wanted but I can totally see the value in those filters. this hobby seems to keep getting exponentially expensive.

I'm in the same situation as VT with the water I have been back at the same waterfall 4 times now. I have probably snap 200 pics of that stupid waterfall and the closest I got was when I tried to use me flash? I just want blurred water dam it.

Tucker - if you right click on any of your photo's & go to properties you should see your exif data which has what you're looking for. Advres mentioned some exif viewer plugin for firefox awhile ago thats pretty useful too, for your first photo:
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/250 second ===> 0.004 second
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 2/1 ===> ƒ/2
# Exposure Program = aperture priority (3)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 100

Need a neutral density filter to blur water smoothly.

My 2 cents on waterfall shooting:

Put the camera on a tripod, use manual or shutter priority and the lowest ISO you have. Take your first shot at 1/8 sec and keep shooting with progressively slower shutter speeds until you get up to several seconds. Compare the results. I like faster moving water blurred somewhere around 1/3 sec best. It keeps more detail that way.

Wide angle (zoomed out) tends to look best. Get the camera as close to the water surface as you can without dunking it. Try to include some foreground detail like rocks in the stream.
