We've won it. It's going to get better now. You can sort of tell these things.

Picture of a couple of friends last night. This picture reminds me to ask the question: how do you guys juggle your shutter speed/iso as light drops when taking action picutures? Obviously I panned the subjects but they are still moving faaaasssst with their rotation and I'm using TV mode trying to keep the shutter as fast as possible without getting too much grain. Do you try to keep ISO under 400? 800? Is this something you just get a feel for after a while?

ISO 1600 1/1250 @ 200 mm F4 and this is cropped into that pretty good.

I drop down to 2.8 Just messing with you.

Personally, it depends on the shot for me. Is the motion of the subject the most important thing in the photo or an overall photo? What body are you shooting witn? With my 7D, I have found 1600 iso to be still pretty decent. I try not to go much higher than that. I have no problem taking the iso to 800 to get the shutter speed up to 1/1250 or so like you have it there. At that point I personally use the ole trial and error and see what comes out better as a lower my shutter speed or increase the iso.

Doubt that was very helpful as I talked in complete circles.

I love this shot satori, comp isn't great to me but those kinds of shots are all about luck anyways

Odd question, is there much symbolism of birds of prey in historical Japanese culture? The contrast of subjects in your shot makes me wonder these things ... I just love the classic structure and the soaring kite.

SM, I havent seen much of them mentioned in books, nor drawn in any kind of artistic rendition either. Lots or rabbits, foxes, weasels etc, but never seen anything of birds. Mind you Im not the most artistic person out there either so maybe somebody else who has could enlighten us

    Booooo...

One of those little bastards chewed up the handle of my fishing rod at Duck Lake. Before that they were cute little critters. Nice shot, though.

outabounds, Duck Lake Oregon or Duck Lake by Mammoth Lakes?

I think they are just vicious bastards in that Mammoth area, as in other wilderness areas they usually run very far from me. I've seen them get pretty audacious with pack raids in the mammoth area. I carry a bear can always not for bears, but these little guys.

Here's a little teezer from an upcoming TR I'll hopefully get around to doing in the near future. Spent a little time in CA a few weeks ago. This one is from Half Dome:

    Morman holiday, full moon fireworks.

The reflections are on a pond suffering through an oil spill in mid June with orange fencing and caution tape still in place(it ain't cleaned up).
