Nice! Looks like it was during daylight, or twilight at least. Did you use an ND filter? If so, how dark and how long of an exposure?

This was actually shot at 11pm. Settings were Manual bulb with a shutter release,f8, iso800, 48 seconds. We were getting sporadic strikes so I just open the shutter until I get a strike. Sometimes I'll use the intervalometer and rattle off a bunch. Someday I hope to get one of the caliber you shot

Thanks, although the places I've been visiting are so photogenic, it's hard to take a bad picture.

PappaG - what kind of camera are you shooting with? A GND would really help that picture if you are using a DSLR or smaller camera that can accept filters.

Similarly, if you are shooting RAW there are techniques you can use to help balance out the exposure a little more. Shoot for the sky to be no more than 2 stops over-exposed. For maximum sky detail (if there are thin clouds or anything) shoot for about 1.5 - 1-2/3 stops over. Lightroom's highlight recovery should then be able to bring the sky down to where it looks blue-ish and bring the darker foreground up for good overall detail providing there's not more than about a 3 stop range between foreground and sky. If more than that, use the GND or the foreground will look a bit grainy.

That explains why I had to doctor that one photo above because I didn't shoot overexposed and had to overcompensate to draw the foreground into color.

Pictures taken with the Lumix LX7. Thanks for the tips. Didn't occur to me until recently to capture with overexposure.

I got to take some kayaking pictures today for the first time. I only have them uploaded to Facebook right now, so the compression is less than desirable.

First, it was the Jordan River:

Then we went over to the Illecillewaet:

Thanks! This year was ticketed unlike years past so I was limited in my veiwpoints. Was tough getting good shots with a decent background not totally overpowering the shot. I really liked this one without the sky, which was the opposite of what I was going for most of the day.

Finished processing photos from our summer trip out east but haven't had time to put together the trip report yet. Here is the pretrip thread: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ee-suggestions Hopefully this weekend I can do it while at a Y11 soccer tourney but until then here is a shot I like of the wife at Whiteface.

Some shots from a camping trip to the Elks last weekend.

    Baldy Reflection

    A Crossbill Finch

The chipmunks are fat. That means a big winter is coming, right?

Not a bad view to wake up to

On our last night of camping, the evening started out clear. Shortly after I took this shot, the clouds moved in from the south, and it rained for most of the night.

A few from this morning's hike up to Niwot Ridge in the Indian Peaks. The light was pretty crazy all morning, thanks to the storms that moved through earlier.

    P&S puppy stoke

Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.
