I think the key on these types of photos is the use of 2nd curtain flash which fires near the end of the exposure time frame. While holding the G10 in front of me, I was spinning in circles inside a room with several ceiling light fixtures and moving the camera around to create additional effects. About a second before the exposure was up, I stopped moving so that the camera would grab my face in focus. Only post-production work I did was to dampen any unnecessary background lighting.

    Settings:
    shutter at 5 seconds
    ISO 80
    f/8.0
flash set to 2nd curtain on highest level
    EV at -2

Pretty sure I had the ND filter turned on so that I could allow for a 5-second exposure without the final image being too bright.

Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

Not exactly what I wanted but I'm working from a tiny netbook screen right now, so image editing is a little tough.

Usually just shoot landscape-y kinda stuff, so this is a stretch for me. Didn't know where else to put this, so...

^^^I like your first attempt at the bike shots. I might suggest playing around with the angles a bit more. In all those shots the rider is moving away from you. Try getting some with the rider coming towards you. Facial expressions are cool IMO in action photog.

Excuse the double post, but I wanted to share here too.

This is one from last night. I decided to mess around with some lighting around the house. I thought the results came out pretty good.

I really love how well the D90 does at high ISO. A little noise, but not bad at all for shooting @ 2500:
