    Wasatch Summer Diversions

And you thought Hellgate at Snowbird was just something you dreamed about hucking your silly carcass off of.

Get away from the crowds at the Sundial, above Lake Blanche.

Then take a dive to cool off, with the Sundial right near by.

frizzo, Mill D South Trailhead, the one right by the S curve, take the trail up canyon until it veers right. Pretty nice hike. Make sure when you get to the lake to hike around to the other two lakes, there are tons of waterfalls coming out of them.

Swimming up there might be a risky one as I believe it falls under watershed rules. Not that I would stop anybody from swimming in it, but my luck I'd jump in right infront of an off duty police officer.

Mill B south. Mill D South is further up (it is right across from Mill D north. ) Swimming is a no no at least it was when I hiked it last summer.

Correct, I checked shortly after I typed it, but then I was just to lazy to edit it.

Either way, well worth the hike up there!

Fun watershed factoid of the day; the water in Big Cottonwood Creek 10 miles up canyon, is coming out of faucets in the valley about 4 hours later.

In other words, keep your butts outta' my drinking water...

Second time around on the Sundial. Just as much fun. Different route. Route follows right hand corner.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...%20res%7E2.jpg

Xover and Powstash finishing up the 3 mile approach past Lake Blanche.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall..._Hike%20In.jpg

    Xover topping out pitch 1.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...19/M%20p-1.jpg

Powstash leading pitch two. "Hmmmm, should I go left or right" Xover yelling "Go straight through the roof, that's the line"
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall.../K%20leads.jpg

Powstash stoked after the lead, hanging on a huge ledge with some nice exposure. Glad he went left.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...19/Kendall.jpg

Powstash and Xover, specs on the belay ledge. Both reading the route description and chiming in "Memorable finger crack to lieback!" And me singing Elvis songs and downclimbing dirt filled cracks.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...ing%20Down.jpg

Xover on the continual hunt for more exposure. I think he would find ultimate happiness sleeping on a portaledge 3,000 feet above Yosemite Valley.
    http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...19/M%20p-2.jpg

3:30 PM at the summit. And Powstash saying "Let's get on our feet, I have a meeting at 5:30." Let's see, two ugly rappels, downclimbing choss, and a 3+ mile hike out? I think you are going to be late dude.

Xover lacing up his shoes as fast as possible to help out in the time crunch. Being none of us are named Alex Lowe, 'Stash was horribly late for his 5:30 rendevous. For reference, the peak in the background is Monte Cristo, peak of many good lines.

Powstash, sorry that third pitch took so long. A little quicker and you might have made your 5:30 meeting.

Xover, I guess you made your 7:00. Think St. George.

    Have fun in the Tetons.

Nice shots and super fun day!!

I don't have a digi cam (yet) so here's my TR in words.

3 miles 2700 vert to Lake Blanche in just a knick over an hour; damn Powstash is 6'-6 and 5'-6 of that is legs so needless to say Trackhead and I were hustlin' to keep pace. Up until about half way I thought I was gonna trombone breakfast then second wind kicked in and I had to pass Stash and let him know he was slowing down. 20 minute scramble over scree/boulders and we were at the base of the route.

After reigning in the adventurous soul that TH is, Stash and I finally got him talked into what the described route was and he's off on the lead. TH combined pitchs 1 and 2 into one 200 footer. Good lead on some sloping, chossy, friction'ers!!

Then traverse right 50' on a ledge to our 5.8 corner and Stash is racked up ready to go. Stash throws down the lead move of the day and is topped out.

TH grabs lead back to finish her off and starts off in a 5.8 finger crack headed for a sizeable overhanging block which he plans to pass on the right. Gets up there then realizes he should've gone a little more right at his last piece of pro and ends up having to downclimb 5.8+ on dirt and grass - can you say PUCKER!! Downclimbs safely, gets back on route and tops her out.

Sweet views from the top all around. I'd love to come back up there in the winter and do some exploring; potential for good lines up high looks good.

Overall climb time: 11 to 3:30. Not bad for a team of 3 up four pitches. 2 hateful rappels and a heel slide down loose, dirty scree on the East side of the Sundial and we are back to packs a little before 5.

Scramble down boulder field and haul ass down the trail passing like a 1/2 dozen other people all looking at us kind of funny. Back to truck in just over an hour. We all need to be somewhere in a hurry so bid adews (sp?) and we're each outta there.

Can't wait to team up again for something!!!

Oh and btw, TH is the MANG he so humbly appears to be.

    Note to self.

When in Utah in the summer, ask trackhead and his posse if I can tag along on a climb. (as long as its only 5.7)

Really nice pics and TR guys. I like the way you added the second trip to the original TR too.

Once again, it's good to be on the rock. As the two above wrote and as seen from the photos, it's nice to get away from it all and tie into a rope. Being on the sharp end is sweet.

There are a TON of sweet looking lines up there that probably don't see too many ski tracks each year. Can't wait for it to snow.
