What the heck am i thinking?

right now my baby, ie my 15" kona roast hardtail dirtjumper/thrasher is sitting in my garage with a 7" junior t hanging on the front! I have a feeling this is going to accomplish 2 things:

    1. completely eliminate all movtivation for xc riding, due to extreme chopper action that jesse james would appreciate
    2. cause me to get in way over my head and lead down a path of pain

Of course, i have been heading down this path all summer now, so it will be a push closer to the hospital

I'll give a full report as soon as i am able to mount up some handlebars to it (damn used fork with too short steerer for my stem and integrated stem sized for oversize bar and lacking shim!)

Sweet fork. You can always mount the clamps down the stanchions an inch or two for less of a chopper effect. This will help keep the front end from "pushing" too much through turns. On my Big Hit, I have the clamps on my Jr. T mounted about an inch down and it made all the difference in the world.

Hah, I love it man. I keep toying with the idea of putting my newly rebuilt Boxxer on my hardtail.

Have fun on that thing and remember, it's 7" it'll soak up almost anything.

I'm in the process of mating my POS Boxxer Race to the Chameleon for shits and giggles. I've got all the parts, now I just need to get off my ass and mount it up. Should be interesting.

i don't know what you're thinking but I sure as hell like it. I 've been wanting to get a similar setup for a long time now. Give me some feedback when you tires touch the dirt.

Have you seen the emoticon on MTBR: 'This Post is Worthless without Pics'?

    Yeah that.

Ask and ye shall receive (unless you were talking solely to WC, in which case you're not aloud to look).

Edit: It's funny how much better my Z1 feels than this turd. I'm not sure the extra inch is worth the downgrade in performance.

Boxxers? BOXxers? WE AIN'T NEED NO STINKING BOXXERS!!!!!

What the heck are you thinking man? Put a junior or super t on the front of that baby stat before she breaks on you in protest.

On a side note, all i need to make my sleigh trail worthy is a zip tie. I would post photos except that a. i don't have a digital camera, nor easy access to one, and b. my computer sucks balls and even if i had a camera i wouldn't be able to load them. that and i am lazy. and suck too much for photos while riding

When I was in NYC, dorking around in central park, I met up with a couple kids ripping on hardtails. Thye were all really good. One of 'em had a GT something-or-other with a dirt jumper on it and was by far the best. So smooth, he was hitting 8-footers and prolly could have done it just as well with a rigid fork.

Anyhow, another kid had a Tankass with a Monster T on it. He was talking about his old FS rig and I asked him why he went to the HT. He said "To get back to basics."

Yeah that's a big East Coast thing apparently--heavy ass hardtails with ginormous forks like Monster T's. But then I ride around on a friend's hardtail for a while and i'm all like, OW this HURTS and I remember why I've only ridden squishy bikes for the past 5 years.

bag--I've always had a soft spot for Chameleons nice

hardtail pride. been on squishy bikes for about 6 years, then got this. takes me from lift served DH to drops-to-flat to the skate park with a swap of the tires. BUNG. i like my z150 on the trail and dh, although it sucks up a lot of energy trying to pump around a bowl.

i've often contemplated putting my shiver on there.

    god i love this bike.

edit: please excuse the spacer stack--steerer tube != cut.

also, every time i mention the z150, i feel compelled to point out that qr20 is FUCKING RETARDED.

Bill you running 24 inch wheels?

Do you sleep on the floor? Or do you sleep with those big daddies?

24" rear on both bikes, all ze time. 24" front for park, street or sometimes trail riding (if i'm too lazy to deal with fucking retarded qr20) on my hardtail, 26" front for faster trail riding/dhing. this photo is with the 26" front, the camera angle (photo credit goes to gimpy mcgee, listing to port) makes the bike look awkward and the wheel looks smaller.

that's basom's room, he sleeps with his big daddies. we're all concerned.

If you want to go faster, you should try fixing that tire rub

I think I'll stick to my fs, at least until I get back home

I'll play. Here's cool shot of my HT up high:

I have a 5.5 inch firefly on it. good fork for a hardtail like this because it doesn't rake it out too much. single speed and strong wheel build.

Hey, how come the QR20 is retarded? I've heard that, but I have no thru-axle experience, just regular quick-release (AY-O!! [/Ed McMahon])

it's retarded because there's no reason to make a less durable, more complicated, heavier, less secure version of a 20mm thru axle.

if i've got the means to save/earn the money to buy a 6" single crown fork, please assume i also have the mental capacity to operate 5 bolts and give me a real thru axle on there, instead of holding my wheel on with a bunch of small parts placed conveniently in harms way.

if i could have gotten a good deal on a manipoo i was going to get one of those solely because of the qr20. my z150 is the shit, but i can only imagine how much better it would be with a real thru axle.

    for edited clarity

i'm going to go out on a limb here.

    everyone questions your mental capacity.
