Stomping drops, how not to knee yourself in the face

Just interested to know how people avoid kneeing themselves in the face when landing drops. I'm in Australia, most of our landings are pretty flat, I landed on the weekend, my googles came off my face from the impact then snapped back on, and I have a vision in my head of my knees being about 10cm from my face. Maybe if the drop had been another metre further I'd be writing this with a broken jaw?

    Advice please.

I'd suggest not slamming your head against your knee when you land. If it keeps happening, maybe you shouldn't be jumping of cliffs feet first. Try leading with your head.

I like it, if I jump head first all I have to do is keep my legs straight, there's not much force on them so I can easily keep myself safe. Cheers for the good advice.

Here's a vid, I only just missed my face..

When you jump off a cliff, extend on your landing. I assume you're balling up with style in the air, don't land that way. If you're hitting your knee, maybe you should get in the gym and work your legs more. -Ted Lancing

get a flint sc. your knee's looked ok, it just looks like you got bucked on the landing. not so flat next time and train your core harder.

    edit--cant do it without legs.

For core exercises I've been doing lunges with and without weights (ie. high reps without weights, low with). hitting the bike pretty hard doing interval training, also quad curls, hamstring curls and squats. Also jumping up and down holding weights for stronger decceleration.

Any other suggestions of exercises people find really good. Specifically for stomping.

abs and lower back--- crunches and back extension on an exercise ball. low row and any other exercises to strenghten those muscles. plyometrics are great for enguaging the quads sooner upon impact. turn your toes outward on leg extension to work the inner quad harder...etc

    Thumbs up

It's all about who goes the biggest. When you double the size of anything that anyone else has ever done before, I think you’re allowed to like slap on your side and then hop up as long as your skis stay on.

Until someone else goes out there and stomps it clean, I don’t think anyone has anything to say.

giro flint sc -- costs about $130, but worth it for the protection on hucks and when billy goating. cold humid days you need to watch your breathing to keeo from fogging up the googles.

How about not landing with your feet together?

Put your feet shoulder width apart. See that gap between your knees? Your face goes there.

Looks like no Flint SC for '05. It's now the Mad Max, which is 100% burlier in my experience. Much more of a moto style full-face than the Flint SC was.

Yeah, but you can find a deal. I got my Giro 9 for $49.99, when it shows $109.99 retail.

What is the benefit of having a visor on the helmet? The Giro 9 has a version now with a visor for tree skiing and what not. I stay in the trees every chance I can get. Never had problem so far and I can see hitting branches with less vis because of a visor.

Can someone show me the light on this one?
