    Cool Wasatch Crest - Pics

So we got a sweet ride in on the Crest on...Thursday? Yeah, Thursday. I was lucky enough to ride the Crest 3 times this week...it's all blurring together. Anyway, the Altagirls, Altard, Powderwhore, boobookitty, and myself had a sweet apres-work session on this most-loved SLC-area trail. Not a ton of pics (hard to stop), but they'll give you an idea of the highlights:

20 minutes from suburbia and we're greeted by this guy near the start of our ride:

Powderwhore having some technical difficulties in the background; L to R, Mr. AG, Altard, AG:

After the moose, you climb a brutal 600-ish vertical feet straight up Puke Hill, recover, then ride some sweeeeeet rolling fast red-dirt singletrack that's as close to skiing pow on a bike I've come. You can just rip the chit outta it and it's soooo smoove! I love techie rocky stuff but ya gotta love buff singletrack too. Here's the end of the rolly smoove stuff:

Altagirl topping out on the last climb:

P-ho still figuring out how to climb with a real [big] bike:

    The Spine

And this is the best-known feature on the Crest ride...The Spine. It's right on the boundary of The Canyons...fall off to the right and you're in pain and in the ski area boundary, fall off to the left and you're in pain and on your way down to Desolation Lake and Big Cottonwood Canyon. Anyway it's basically this big nasty rock formation with lots of potential lines down it, but it's usually a fun place to stop and watch LOTS of carnage.

    Mr. Altagirl:

Altagirl--watch out for the log! (and more importantly, me)

    P-ho: No dabbing! Bad ho!

Then it's a long, steep, twisty, rocky, stair-stepping roller-coaster ride of near-misses and [xover]FAAAOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUNNN![xover] to the Mill D trailhead in Big Cottonwood.

Not as good a shot as Altagirl's (trees are nicer than light poles), but still cool:

Nice pics! I'm ready to hit that one again. Next time we'll have to remember to leave the truck with the beer at the bottom.

We tried to access the tower sites at the top yesterday, no go. Guardsman Pass is still closed pretty far down. Maybe in July.....

That was a nice night last year, I'm ready for more of that (be ready, Altard is killing it uphill this year; we'll still smoke him coming down )

Sweet Josh! Gotta get a ride it on that!

I've got a bikes fly free voucher on Frontier and I'm working on a "work" related trip to the area. Gonna bring the bike I do believe!
    I think I'm going mad.

I think we're gonna give it a try this coming Wednesday...

I read that Mill D is clear to the top now, fingers crossed for the guardsman approach...

I hiked to the communication towers on Monday (for work). The paved road opened Monday afternoon at 1500 but the trail in the woods (the first mile or so) is a MESS. Huge snow piles, a lot of running water and a great deal of tree damage. It was kinda tough just walking through it and makes me think that the lower Mill-D part of the trail may be a mess as well. I took some photos, I'll try to get them up later.

Thanks for the report Mr. AG. Hmmm, this is disappointing. So do you think we should wait another couple weeks?

Loop from Reynolds Flat to the ridge above Desolation, to upper Millcreek, to Great Western, to Dog Lake, to Reynolds flat.
Few patches of snow on the shady above Desolation and upper Millcreek.
    Few trees down.
    Otherwise, good to go.

I rode the lower portion of Mill D (up to the fork and back) on Sunday. The section just below the fork has a big rut right in the middle but iit can be avoided. The bottom is in great shape though.
