Just wanted to let you know about a group ride we do every Tuesday night in SLC. Check out the website http://slctrials.com/
Trials is a sweeeeeeet way to improve your skills whether you enjoy technical singletrack, Freeriding, or need to improve your balance at stop lights while in spandex. Everyone is welcome to come out to the group rides. The guys are cool and will give you tips as you desire, or if you already rock at trials, come give us some tips.
Brad at a recent Demo in SLC. We are starting to do demo's for different events. This is a group of "troubled youth" (8-14) that needed a little break at their summer camp.
Like you say the guy is unbelievable. Even more so in person.
Those Euros are crazy. Of course he has the advantage of his dad owning Koxx bike company (one of the big name frame mfg. in trials.), but sick skills nonetheless.
Nice k, next time you're up in that area, round up frizzo and have him take you to i-street so you can learn how to dirt jump.........or not. Otherwise, I won't have anything to smack talk with.

Or round me up and I'll go ride trials with you. Or at least street.

Couldn't agree more, just started playing around with this stuff - I mean, trackstand, rear wheel pivot, these are still a challenge to me - but I'm really digging it, and I notice that just in the 3 weeks or so I've been working on it, I've improved a lot on the mountain bike. Can't wait to someday be able to do something mildly impressive.
Ben (the guy that started slctrials) will be selling Zoo and Echo pretty soon, so I would keep tabs on the slc site. If you want, I'll let you know when he gets some in and you could check them out. He should be the first retailer in Utah with some real Trials bikes, and will probably have good deals initially to get the word out.
Echo pure is a sweet bike. I ride an older planet x and love it, but it would always be nice to drop some weight.
Bottom line...ditch the XC bike if you can afford to get a real trials set-up. The geometry, braking, and strength to weight ratio of a trials dedicated rig are a huge advantage.
(If you can't afford it, don't be hesitant to ride an XC frame. Lower your seat, get your brakes dialed (especially rear), lock out your shock, or compress if possible, and learn some of the basics.)
