    One of Dr. Charles F. Richter's most valuable contributions was to recognize that the seismic waves radiated by all earthquakes can provide good estimates of their magnitudes. He collected the recordings of seismic waves from a large number of earthquakes, and developed a calibrated system of measuring them for magnitude

    you know what's sad? I just flew back here today (friday), from Fort Bragg, NC. In the Fayetteville region. Anyway it is hotter here than it was there (and I was sweating my balls off down there!!!), which is pretty amazing.

    Glad to see Civil Engineering shut down my A/C to my dorm room, and turned the heat back on. My room was a blast furnace, once again. Thank you for immense government bureaucracies, how would we get anything done without them. Anyway I fired up my window A/C unit and now things're fine

    Rusty, you were right, paratroopers are fakkin cool. I flew every day I was there, dumping troops and vehicles. cool stuff.
