You're right, sorry. I wasn't feeling like reliving it before.
So I had this ticket handed to me at about 7:15 that evening, and met the three other people I was going with (we were all strangers to each other--all just happened to know the people who couldn't use their tix). Two of them were Sox fans, one from the Cape and the other from Boston.
It took us four passed trains before a 'four' train had enough room to let us on--about twice as packed as rush hour, believe it or not. Started taking shit on the train about my Sox hat, got popcorn thrown at me outside the stadium, and lots of stupid comments. Got into the stadium about sixty seconds before the first pitch, and settled in with a hot dog.
I'll assume everyone who's interested saw the game, so I won't really go into that, but we had great seats (about halfway between first base and the RF wall, maybe eight rows back) and our immediate area was peppered by foul balls and Karim Garcia's (the jailbird) warmup balls throughout the night.
In front of us, the prototype of the Yankee loser couple--middle aged, matching warmup jackets, different playoff hats, constantly yelling 'asshole' at Pedro and Manny. Made a comment about my 'scummy Red Sox hat' halfway through the game. In front of them, a ten year old kid who spent more time turned around yelling obscenities at us than he did watching the game. In the eighth inning some drunk ('98 Yankees playoff hat) wandered into our area and began hitting the hat of the guy a couple rows ahead of us who was wearing a Nomar jersey, and his friend who was wearing an old Red Sox Clemens jersey. The drunk eventually got thrown out.
In the seventh inning I successfully sidestepped the spray of soda and beer that came flying down toward us--the people I was with weren't so lucky.
When Boone hit his shot in the eleventh, I was praying it would be foul. From directly across the park it was difficult to judge depth, so it seemed possible that it would be foul. Wakefield's pitch in person actually looked worse (from my angle) than it did on TV, where it did seem to knuckle a bit. To me it looked a lot like a BP pitch.
Walking out was another adventure, and as I got on the train a cop started heckling me, telling me to 'take it [my hat] off'.
I guess I enjoyed seeing the game, I sure wasn't expecting to be able to go (I spent about two hours online trying to get tix for a game in Boston, unsuccessfully), in the abstract it was a great, great, game, I just obviously hated the result.
Oh yeah, at 1:30 (or whatever time I made it home) I almost got in a fight at McDonald's with a Yankees punk, but some other Red Sox fan took up with the kid before the manager threw the kid out.
It was the first Red Sox away game I've been to since I lived in Cleveland in the late 80's and used to always catch a September series--very different atmosphere as the Indians were usually in last place and there was little rivalry. I believe I attended the MLB game with the lowest attendence ever at one of those games--less than 3,000 fans in what was the biggest stadium (Municipal Stadium, cap. 80,000) at the time.

Chris Spielman was talking about how Minnesota needed to get the crowd "in the game."

Yeah, WTF with that MSU/Minnesota game? Two ranked teams and no one shows? I guess I wouldn't really want to go to a college football game at the HHH Metrodome either, though. I did enjoy the result...

What, you didn't see the game or hear the final score??
As a baseball game it was great--suspenseful, great play, questionable managing (on one side at least). Just sucks that the Evil Empire gets to rule for another year.

...reminiscent of attending a Devils-Flyers game in Philly while wearing my Devils' jersey.
Never had I had so much debris tossed at me... rather disturbing, considering I was eleven.
.....
For the record, I do manage a few Devils away games a year (Philly, NYR) and I think that was the only *really bad* one! The others were typically pretty jovial in terms of being heckled.

Last year went to a VT vs. Miami football game at the Orange Bowl last Dec. VT had pretty much already blown their season and the Miami fans, worst sports fan of any sport for any team every. And I that includes the Yankees fans which are the #2 worst fans in Sports (in my book). Miami was kicking our ass and we still were getting heckled, drinks thrown at us (not even allowed to have beers in College stadiums nowadays), had one asshole slap me in the back of the head as I stood up when VT scored a touchdown... woulda liked to have thrown down, but my 110lb g/f was my only backup against his 4 friends

i watched the game with 3 people that are from new york. Me being a Mariner fan, i wanted the yankees to eat shit hard, as soon as they lost i immedietly got insults thrown at me like rocks, instead of getting pissed, i just laughed and laughed and laughed...
