Note to my boss - TdF Stage 16 (no results)

No results because the stage hasn't yet begun.
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear Barbara,

IG was late for work today because he was watching Lance Armstrong sew-up the Tour de France in Stage 16 - the individual time trial up L'Alpe d'Huez.

    Thank you.

    I wasn't aware of this...

"Tour de France Comes to NYC!
OLN will broadcast the Stage 16 L'Alpe d'Huez time trial LIVE from Times Square on Wednesday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m. The epic battle will unfold on the 585 square foot video screen at 44th & Broadway."

Hmm, don't have OLN at home, can get there in 15min by bike, but no sound...

good stuff, very exciting indeed. My only issue is why I am hearing "boo's" from the crowd. I think that kinda sucks, oh well, fuel for the fire. You would think they were hosting this race in Philly with all the boo's.

edit: anyone see the giant white letters "EPO: Lance" written on the road, that is fuct.

    Amazing!

    I saw the "Lance EPO"

. . . . wish I'd seen the "Lance rip their balls off" because he did.

Ya know, when the thread title says (no results), I'd appreciate it if you didn't post the results in the thread...

EPO is short for EPOGEN, a recombinant erithropoitin sold by Amgen. Erithropoitin is a protein neccessary for red blood cell production and people who don't produce normal levels are anemic. Although EPOGEN is marketed towards anemics, athletes have been taking advantage of it to boost red blood cell count and, hence, oxygen-carrying capacity in order to improve aerobic performance.

Here is an article on Lance from 2002, it is long, it is still relevant today. It addresses the EPO issue somewhat. It gives some good background on Lance, that he was recognized as being genetically gifted even as a teenager. Also it address his know it all attitude that kept him from reaching his full potential early on. Long article, but worth the read...

I figured that didn't apply when the title of the thread specified "No Results".

There was also another one that said "Fuck Lance" right around below it. Barely caught it, but it was there. It seemed like the crowd was pretty brutal in what they were saying to him when he was interviewed after the race.

isn't this similar to Procrit (the Amgen produced, J&J marketed Cancer supplement)?

I seem to recall that both are the same class of erythropoietic agents, the so called epoetin alfa. So, they're probably the same. I'm pretty sure that Amgen's patent protection is up by now and that has allowed other companies to exploit the field.

    No need for 2 threads:

    Dahm-in-ay-shun

I guess Basso wasn't a threat after all. I knew Lance was prepared, but I definitely didn't expect a pass half way up the mountain.

I was hoping for another (somewhat) exciting Tour, where Armstrong showed weakness and a possibility of him not winning existed...oh well, maybe next year.

I agree w/ Lance that a TT on a climb as popular as the AdH is a terrible idea. If they insist on it again, I suggest that they provide each rider a gun loaded w/ rubber bullets. That'll keep the drunkest of the maniacs at bay. You know it's bad when a vet like Armstrong says there were a couple of places he was lucky to make it through.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Tomorrow should be another great stage. The riders are wiped out, 1 beyond classification climb and riders in the Top 5 trying to improve GC position. It looks like Lance has the race won, but there is still more racing. It will be interesting to see what T-Mob does with Kloden and Ulrich 3,4 in the GC. I would imagine there might be some big attacks, other than the early in the stage breakaways. It would be nice to see another American win a stage like Tyler did last year, it appears that the only hope would be Levi at this point.

But I missed all the negative words.

I saw all of those written on the road and heard the boos. The funny thing is I think the idiots stayed out of his way more than they did for guys like Virenque and Ullrich.

Who the hell is Ulle? Is that Ullrich? I saw that on the road more than anything.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy
