WWMD: Bootie + blood + NorCal

So I kicked a fin at OB about two weeks ago and cut the top of my foot pretty deep. I didn't think anything of it when it happened and surfed for 30 more minutes, then came in and saw my foot was bleeding like a mofo.

    A) I was chumming OB with my foot. Lucky.

    B) WWMD with a bootie that was full of blood at one point? Wash it out and wear it again? Make a new bootie out of steak? Stuff old bootie with steak and keep using it?

Did the bootie get cut by the fin? If so, I would just spend the money on a new pair. Otherwise, wash 'em and wear 'em.

Besides, there are no sharks at OB. They were all surrounding me in my head this morning...

if it's not ripped your booty's fine- just scrub it extra good and even soak it in water with a little bleach for a while (for those of you who don't know gonz, avoiding the neurosis caused by thoughts of attracting sharks with a blood-stained booty is way worth any neoprene degredation).

yet another reason to go with futures. although, the water pressure of your foot moving towards an fcs fin would have probably popped them out, avoiding the cut altogether.

there is a 3 cm cut on the top of the booty. as honc put it, new booties = $35 insurance policy + no neurosis.

Although - your story remind me of one time I was surfing near Ano. I was by my self, but it is was sunny, summer and a load of people on the beach.

I wiped out on one wave and my board smacked me in the nose. It hurt, but the waves were good, so I paddled back out.

About an hour later two guys paddle out and one say "Dude! Your fucking bleeding!" It seems I had a slow nose bleed I somehow never noticed. I decided it was best if I got out and stop the bleed. When I paddled back out, they wanted to inspect my nose to be sure I was not still bleeding in the line up.

I guess bleeding in the line up is always a good tactic to clear out the crowds in NorCal

that's hilarious. bleeding in the lineup is definitely not cool in norcal.

king's run east works with a guy from socal that's into triathlons and stuff - that paddled out at the point on the south side of waddel when he was in town - never surfed there before. there was a lull in the swell and he wanted a workout, so he paddled several hundred yards offshore, turned around and paddled straight back to the lineup. he was not well received upon return.

Are you kidding me? The local crew will just stink eye that bootie until it cries and drifts in.

    ^^Stink eye?? Recent conversation:

"Dude, do you know where you are?"

"Yeah, I know where I am."

"Are you SURE you know where you are??"

    "I said I know where I am."

"'Cause this wave is for reals, man. I could be an asshole and tell you to get out, or I could just be nice. But if you fuck up, this wave will hurt you, man."

"Thanks, man. I'll just watch you catch a few."

"The place to watch is from the CLIFF, Man!!"

My favorite 'chumming the water' shot. My buddy couldn't understand why the other guy paddling out gave him a deathly afraid look til I snapped this Polaroid real quick for him

I think id def. opf for new booties.
Even out east, im not a huge fan of blood in the water. i was at Pt Judith on a decent day about 5 yrs back. I bailed on a wave and dove as deep as i could, as i was coming back i heard a big crack and saw a flash of light. Turned out by the wave picked up my board and broke with it coming down directly on my forehead. I reached up to see if there was a bump, and three of my fingers went into a big split on my temple...blood everywhere.
My first thoughwas def. i need to get the fuck out of here now.

Funny thing is my own chumming stupidity.

Racoons got into my shed the other night and made a mess of things - got into a bag of blood meal. Ate some, and spread it around, including on my backpack.

Went to go surf yesterday, stuffed my suit into said pack. Proceeded to paddle out alone up north, wondering what that fertilizer smells was - no farm run around. Then I realized it was my suit covered in blood meal.

When the crowd showed up (which it did super quick), I just told this "What a dumb ass I am" story. Half the guys got out after just a few waves.

The bootie will be fine. I do a bit of spearfishing with sharks, most of the time they're attracted to the struggling fish and will try pretty hard to take it off your spear. If you get a head shot or bring the fish in fast and break it's neck, they usually don't pay much ttention to your catch.

I've also had some pretty good surfing cuts in very sharky water. Once during grey reef shark mating season where the sharks were literally buzzing around below us the whole surf and they didn't seem that excited by the blood, and it was bleeding a lot.

Trace amounts in a washed bootie won't matter.
