    Thumbs up Smith rocks!!

I sent in my broken frames on my Mainlines and got a new pair of frames with in 5 days, no questions asked!!!

    My email to Smith:

    Dear Smith,

On your website you state, "Smith Sport Optics prides itself in providing exemplary Customer Service. Complete customer satisfaction is our foremost goal."

Well you certainly do live up to your word.

I sent a pair of Smith Mainline Sunglass frames in that had been broken by the tail of my dog hitting me in the face. I decided to take a chance and see what Smith may be able to do for me about the broken frames. I sent them in on Thursday, July 15, 2004 from Logan, UT to your service center in Clearfield, UT via UPS Ground. I was just sitting here in my office today when our shipper handed me a small package from Smith, on Tuesday, July 20, 2004. I opened the package and was very pleased with what I saw: A brand new pair of frames in the same color as I had before. WOW! I'm back in business. The new frames and turn around time was unbelievable.

I would like to thank you for your excellent service and your desire to serve your customer. When I do need another pair of sunglasses or ski goggles, they will no doubt say Smith on them.

    Best regards,

    Buzz

nice! That's why I only buy Smiths - I'm incredibly tough on all my gear, and I've got about 6 pairs of Smiths (yeah, i know, but I'm a girl - I have to ACCESSORIZE). I've sent in various broken glasses about 5 times and always had a great response. Only once did I pay, which i happily did since it was because my dog has chewed them up. So now I'm a Smith's biggest fan.

(by the way, that must be one hell of a tail on your dog!)

From that picture, it would appear that someone's campfire got a little out of hand.

I have broken 3 pair, sent in an explanation of what happened and all three were returned new.

Oakley would never do this for me. Smith = Top Shelf.

Ha, funny you said that. I threw out the old Oakleys out of the box they came in to send the Smiths back. Just threw em in the garbage, been 4 years and Oakley would never fix a defect.

Oakley has taken care of me all 3 times I got stress cracks in the frames. The flipside is that I got stress cracks in 3 pairs of Oakleys...

I've become a Smith man though.

Hmmm...this thread is making me re-think sending in a pair of Smiths that I broke the lens on last year. It's worth a shot I guess!

Yep, I have held on to those frames for about 4 months and finally sent them in, cost me $4 shipping.

    Worth a shot.

And phUnk, I used to like Oakley till they would not fix my arm of my Eyeshades and wanted $45 for a new frame. It broke at the same point all my others did and always got new frames. So I decided to so the Smith route. Diggin it so far, got 2 pair and bought the wife a pair too.

    And next time speak up!

yea, me too. I've got 2 pairs of broken mainlines at home, broken in the same spot on each pair (above the left eye near the arm - the plasitc is so thin there)

I still use them for running as they pretty much stay in place and if I'm wearing my hat they don't go anywhere. I guess it's worth the hassle of going to the post office.

I have 6 pairs and I'm not a girl. If it's gear related stuff can a guy accessorize too?

edit: i forgot about the black "verdicts"

Mine broke at the bottom of the outside curve, clean snap.

I bet you send em both at the same time, they see the spot they snapped and you should be back in good shape. Of course I wrote a very professional letter and kiss up enough too, " My whole family wears Smith for sunglasses and ski goggles.....it is true, my wife and I do wear Smith" and I did put the letter on company letterhead with my title on it. Im sure they could care less, but it looked real nice.

The follow up email should hopefully help for next time, ya never know.

KC, I would send em in. Let us know what happens. SHould only take a week so it seems.

I forgot that you're the one with the two horses...er, very big dogs. Damn - you should charge them rent, or at least get a stable just for them.

Yea, my wife has 2 pairs. I think between the two of us we have 4-5 pairs of Smith goggles. My mother in law now sports Smiths (she's 50 somthing and loves 'em) and all my wife's family that skis all sport Smith goggles. I even have an 8 foot SMITH banner in my office as decor, which can be seen from the parking lot as it's on the wall facing the window. My buddy just landed the marketing head honcho job at Scott and I'm having loyalty issues - to him not to Smith. So yea, I'm a fan.

Tomorrow's project: Smith shades. Thanks for the motivation Buzz.

That is a new one, Buzz motivates others.

From your description, I do believe I also now know where your office is. We did our reseller convention at the Westgate.

I crushed a pair of mainline frames this winter and they made me pay $40 to get them replaced and they were well within the warranty year. What gives? I love their products but why did I have to pay when no one else did? that sucks.

Gotta disagree with you there boys. I've never had anything but great service from oakley. I sent in a pair of wires that I had sat on for a week in the crack of my car seat wondering where they were, replaced free. I also sent in a pair of oakleys that had been stepped on by someone in ski boots in a lodge after I droped them, replaced free. My highschool swim coach had some M-frames that would break in the same place everytime. He'd use them for a couple months and get a new pair for free. When I knew him he'd gone through like 5 sets.

I'm not slamming Smith, I love them. But I think Oakley's customer service is pretty good. I think once they asked me to pay a flat $20 fee for handling the return or something, which I did since it was my fat ass that flattened the shades in the first place.

One thing I can say about Oakley's that I don't think can be disputed is their lense quality. They are far and away the best. I have a pair of polarized oakleys that blow my poloarized smiths out of the water. Love or hate Oakley, they make some quality shit. Except their goggles are prone to foggage, but most goggles are.

    oakley delivers?

perhaps if your name is bossass then Oakley will deliver.

I've never had any first hand experiences with them but I've heard more negative than positive. Glad they took care of you though.
