    Jiminy Peak TR (sorta)

mildbill, his friend Brad (?) and myself went to Jiminy on Sunday. Sorry, no pictures, only a few highlights from rainy Sunday afternoon...

Showed up around 1:45 only to wait for Bill to put his bike back together and then to have the lifts shut off about a minute after I bought my ticket. While waiting out the rain, Bill's single speed (Banshee Scratch) attracted lots of attention, including one befuddled dher would said nothing, only stared with his mouth open about 5 feet away.

After waiting out the rain, the first run was interesting to say the least. It was wet, muddy, rooty and slick as hell, so we slipped and slided down to a little bridge. Overall, crappy construction with about a 4 footer to flat landing. Of course, Bill had to show off... He hit the bridge, stuck the landing but couldn't ride out the nose manual afterwords

Next run, we found a little drop and of course Bill had to show off again. This time, no nose manual and no wreck. However after watching him roll around in pain following the landing, I strongly advise changing his Clubby McDumbfuck name to Droppy McNutsmasher or something similar. The rest of the afternoon was rather uneventful, some drops were hit, Bill's friend's rim bent, Bill stuck the next run over the bridge and I continued to watch him hit the very flat landing.

I really wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly suprised with Jiminy. It had a decent variety, from steep switch backy trails, to fast flowy trails. I was hoping for some freeride oriented stuff, but aside from the one bridge, I didn't see anything. Hopefully I'll be able to get back and explore a little more...

Now that I've healed up well from my initiation into the mildbill massochist death march through Lynn Woods, I'd love to check out Jiminy one of these days. Sounds like a good time.

I know lots about progression ... While you were showing off with your fancy face-stalls and your ball smash run around in circles then fall on the ground thing, I was silently taking treeriding and no footer, no hander, 1/3 front flips to new levels.

    Thumbs up

This Jiminy report is long overdue.....

June 1986... I had just picked up my brand new Stumpjumper. I pulled into the parking lot and like a kid in a candy store I hastily untied my bike from the trunk rack of the Galaxy 500. I'd waited years for this moment. How many lift rides up that old Mueller did I long for lift served biking. I geared up and headed towards the base area tearing out of the parking lot. I'm just gonna crank right up 360 in the middle ring. Wrong. When did this hill get so steep? Even Slingshot seemed steeper than I'd ever imagined. After a quick reality check I sashayed over to Left Bank where i knew I could ride the entire way. Well, after some more realization that grassy ski slopes in the summer bare no resemblance to the snow covered flat run outs of my youth I sucked up my pride and pushed the bike to the top on the steeper spots. Which, if you know Left Bank, steep spots aren't really there.... Anyway, upon reaching the top I sat in a front facing chair looking out over the soft green Berkshires with awe. One of the finest Safety breaks I can remember. Just me, my new steed and a thousand+ vertical feet of trails beckoning below.

After a few laps off the summit down the front chute and back up West Glade I noticed a nice looking trail off the back. It's a snowmobile trail in winter. As usual the lure of the tight hardwoods always draws me in from the wide open spaces. Abandoning years of anticipation I decided the front side would have to wait. I slipped down the narrow muddy route gaining speed. Years of imagining this very ride prepared me well. Weight back, don't hold those bars too tight, look between the trees. What a rush! I emerged on a power line 10 minutes later. Throwing it into top gear I pedaled off down the well worn motorcycle trail. Eyes tearing and wrists screaming I made it to the highway in what seemed a flash.

Looping back into the lot I couldn't help but think, when the hell are they gonna run the lifts for this shit? I guess I need to really get back to Jiminy for some closure.
