    Unhappy

Scuttlebutt is that Loveland is having severe melting problems and A-Basin has it even worse.

I'm guessing that Friday won't be happening... but with the weather changing on Thursday night, the chance they open Saturday is looking pretty good.

    Shera, any new info?

No, of course not. But there's always a few eeediots that can barely hold their edges to the snow and yet feel compelled to flail at full speed. It's pretty easy to see who's in control. Just don't take any air over blind rollers.

    I love this one,
    "Slow down there, cowboy!"

That'll work real well when I put on that Texas drawl.

Nope. I guess I could call over there today and see what's up...

Don't get your thongs in a wad...

but the news is not so good. I just got off the phone with the patrol director and he said they couldn't even blow snow last night. There is no scheduled opening day - really can't have one.

So, let's go outside and enjoy the sunshine.

    Endless,

You might want to reconsider coming to Colorado, this just in from AB's website:

    :: Opening Day - Sometime in October 2003 ::
Yep, the warm weather has thrown us for a loop, so we won't be opening on Friday, Oct 24 as previously stated. When will we open? Since we can't predict the weather, we can't tell you. We think we'll pick October 31st because it's Halloween, payday and about a week later than we thought. Seriously, as soon as we know, we will tell you! We're working on it.

    This sucks...

As I'm sure you read above, I have to stick with groomed and obviously chair-accessed skiing. I can't hike. There are many exercises I can't do for a year such as leg extensions with weights. I think they're going to allow me to do 90 degree squats around January. I'm not even supposed to be skiing, but um, yeah...like I'm gonna follow that advice...
Well... I feel like a right arse. I didn't even bother to read all of your first post. And I entirely forgot about your numerous posts regarding your injury earlier this year over on Powdermag.com. I'll buy a round or two for you at the Tahoe Summit and try to make up for my callous comment. I hppe you'll accept my sincerest of applogies.

I hope all goes well with your recovery. If you make it over to the western side of CO, give me a holler! I'll set you up good.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. There's something wrong when it's October 21st in Colorado and I'm still driving with my freakin' air conditioning on everyday! Even with the windows open in the house at night I'm still hot. Well, on the other hand, maybe mother N is saving all the goods for later on?

I drove from Boulder to Steamboat and back today. Beautiful all the way. 79 degrees when I left the 'boat at 1:30. Loveland did not look like they had blown anything for a day or two. There are a few piles, but nothing that looks remotely like they could pile it into a run.

    Maybe next weekend.

Probably until the new year, but I've definitely have to be ready for the steeps of Lone Peak (Big Sky) and JH by mid-January. It could be life-threatening to run out of strength at the top of Lenin or Marx.
    Man, that's coming up fast.

OK, guys and gals. I'm needing assistance here. I might have to switch gears real fast on this. I need to know if there's anything easily accessible (hikeable) at Loveland to get a few hundred vertical feet of skiing in this Saturday.

If not, how about you Portland maggs--how far down does the snow reach in the gulley below the Silcox hut? Can you still ski down to about where they park the cats?
This weekend is the only opportunity I have to ski this month, so I have to go to one of these two places.

That's the bottom stretch... the top is covered. You can't really see it from the road.

"Maybe next weekend," sounds like it doesn't really matter to you if they open or not. It's freaking opening day. Show some enthusiasm. No offense.

Endless, I still think they will open Saturday, but if not your only hope at Loveland is to poach the run they are blowing snow on. I don't think they would like that too much.

I'll be out of town but...my house is right on the way from the airport to the hill. You can swing by and grab my wheelbarrow. If this is what it takes to keep the streak alive, I'm sure a posse could be rounded to push your ass up to the strip of snow up at loveland.

Knowing that I'm going to be insanely jealous of you fuckers in just a matter of weeks, I wanted to take the opportunity to say that: as of now, sitting here in St. Louis, I do not envy you jonesing over that godforsaken gaper-bespeckled ribbon o' death.

That is all - flame away if you like!

I must admit, Karl--It does look rather pathetic and silly when you step back and look at it, doesn't it? But from one maggot to another, isn't that what's likely making it all the more attractive to seriously ill individuals such as ourselves? [/end rhetorical question] Heheh.

Uh oh! Loveland has removed its opening day countdown. Not a good sign.
