    Obs from today:

one good size natural out of old reliable. probably had a 2' crown and ran down mark malu. it likely ran on the wet facets from early october. the rain event above 10.5k dropped about 2" of water and thoroughly soaked them.

good skiing in gad valley but most of the high elevation in P-gulch got wind affected. we did a lot of setup today and will do more tomorrow. i still can't believe that we're opening at 9am. 3 days ago this wasn't even a thought for most of us.

Based on the snow I skied at Alta yesterday, I wouldn't take my sled out to anywhere but Guardsman right now. But even so, I'm waiting for a couple more feet, I don't want to wreck my sled so early in the season.

it's your favorite summer ski run at the bird. North facing off east twin. the upper crown was at about 11,300. it ran at about 8:30am this morning. sorry, no pics. i was busy working my butt off. i'm definitely out of shape for ski season.

A few shots from today taken by Springsproject and Johngchrist. Started skinning around 6:15 made it up to Main Chute by around 7:45 or so. SP and JG had first and second tracks in Main, my hands were frozen so I needed to warm up and let a few others go before me The weather at the top was seriously haneous this morning. Winds coming from the south up Main Chute were depositing a lot of snow on top of us. The winds were scouring the north facing ridgeline and depositing snow on the south facing aspect. We witnessed a few propagating cracks in the top 6-8 inches, North aspect around 11,000 ft. Other then that everything was pretty bomber.

    Sunrise over Superior

Breaking trail up the Baldy Rideline

    SP getting it done

    Main Chute ready for Schlarping

    After taking a tumble

    Finding the WHITEROOM

    JG making a powder slash

Springsproject wishing he remembered his snorkel

Sick shots, JTrue. We should get out and rip it up. Anyone going to the bird tomorrow? There's going to be some serious carnage... there really isn't that much snow. I took a digger on N. Baldy after slaying some sharks.

I'm going out. But not to the Bird or Alta.

Thinking about hauling a rail and some chain link fence up the the Pfeiff. Then doing a sick urban park sequence shot through the chain link. I need someone with a face scarf thingy on.

Nowhere near as much snow in the bcc but is there ever. Snow was much more elavation dependent in the bcc. Damn near twice as much in the lot of brighton vs. soli. Some easily breakable wind slabs on the ridgeline of the cirque @ soli. Gonna head back up this morn and check out wolvie and or snake creek. Damn good to be skiing again.

It got warm up there this morning. Above freezing to ridgelines by this afternoon?

Avi Experts: What are the possible scenarios for the granular, rain-soaked layer that old reliable (likely?) ran on?

It seems to me that warm ground + warm air temps will help everything presently on the ground bond well.

THat is nothing, we hiked about 3 hours to ski some of the most heinous conditions over here in COlorado. Breakable crust with 60 MPH winds.
THese utard conditions look epic as usual.
Nice pics, i was skinning by 7 and air temp was -5 f. thought we would get the kind and we got skunked
