Just got word that LCC will be closing at 5:45 a.m. on 4/16 with no estimated time of reopening. Guess we'll have to dawn patrol in Big Cottonwood tomorrow. What a bummer.![]()
Skied a few laps in steep trees upper silly fork. Not many sheep in the bcc today. Snow density lighter and accumilation much greater above 85k. little bit of sun before what felt like frontal passage was enough to start tree bombs falling and meadows rollerballing. Good stablity some sluffing on steeper aspects.
New snow bonded well to bed surface. Hasty pits failing Q2 an inch or so above existing saturated bed surface.

"... she'll never need a doctor; 'cause I check her out all day"
Had my last 2 Alta runs of the season this morning. Couldn't have asked for a better way to end it.
Now, do I pony up for the Bird spring pass or just go 100% bike (and occasional ski tour) mode? Hmmmm...
I'm so hardcore, I'm gnarcore.
J, you are our contingent of Skideepow
But I gotta say, F The Bird and its Spring Pass!!
Plus, you shouldn't call today your last Alta day; I was up this afternoon and it only got better and better and better ... tomorrow, Friday and early Saturday will be off the hook!!!
I figured out (to my preference) a long time ago that paying for 2-3 spring tix at the Bird on appropriate days a spring pass did not make; the touring, climbing, trail running (and in your case biking) filled in the jonesy gaps.
Don't give in just yet J; don't give in; come that first 100 degree day in July you will regret it!!!!

Always travel safely and keep an eye out for others below you. Must be safe, nothing propagated on the cat track.
Be sure to bring first aid, or be near somebody who can render aid. We chose to be near somebody, but we got scared, because nobody was in there.
Then set up your uber, sick, gnar "athletes" appropriately for the one slash turn wonder ski cut. Notice the incredible blurry steeze.
He survived, so.........
Good skiing on Sponge Bob snow this morning despite seeing this guy. But he broke trail, otherwise we would have been lost. Funky red stuff about 2" down. Looks like Colorado, except more snow.
Hope I didn't give away any secret locations.

Driving out solo from Truckee tonight...will be at Alta early tomorrow for some final pow skiing...if anyone wants to sync up let me know...and next time you're in Tahoe a Squaw tour will be offered up...
9:00 AM Collins lift, red jacket with a little grey, black helmet with an Alta sticker on each side.
Good Turns this morning in upper BCC with the vor. There was a 1" windslab on the SE face just over the ridgeline, but other than that everything seemed to be pretty welded into place.
North facing skied well all morning. The east facing got a little too much sun when it came out earlier in the morning and was considerably heavier during the 12 pm exit.
Not too shabby for mid April.

Whoa; Trackhead NOT looking for solitariness and skiing inbounds instead? It was crazy deep in spots today… one touring partner ate sh#t face down on a rollover and choked on snow for a minute or two [the real reason for avalungs?] while trying to release his binders and I shot peened off a buried rock in a chute going mach schnell and escaped with minor bruising.
These were the first noteworthy incidents of the season and so much fun was had anyway that mountain biking will be put on the back burner with some corn farming in its place.
After getting chased around a little bit by UDOT this morning (we had planned to go up Patsy Marley either to Silver or Catherine's), we ended up at Scotties. One of the best days of the year. Aside from a little sluffing, stability was good. Snow was creamy goodness, bluebird conditions.
Looks like it's clouded up since then with more snow supposed to fall and I'll have to get up at 4:30 tomorrow yet again. Damn.
As good as it was yesterday, that's how bad it was this morning. Crust on the south facing and wind-jacked snow on the north facing aspects.
++Vibes++ to those who came in from out of town in hopes of finding powder.
I am ready for some corn, though we're going to need more sun and colder nights than are currently in the forecast. This morning was a disappointing end to a great streak. I want to know what fucked up the snow so badly. My current theory focuses on the terrorists, in conjunction with pirates, with funding from the mormons, using soviet technology, to come up with some sort of ray gun that is able to instantly melt and refreeze the snow surface on all aspects.
Word.
Got out with Boissal this morn. BCC 7000-9500'. All aspects looked at, and all aspects skied were heinous. Not quite supportable breaking crust ~1" thick. On the plus side, no instability to speak of. Always nice to get out though.
Anyone out n aboot this afternoon?
