    Travel Insurance Question

It does not seem to be my year in dealing with the stupid lumbering giant called government. Aside from a never ending DMV fiasco, I get summoned for jury duty on Friday 12/5. I am leaving for Alta on Wed 12/10. A trial lasting more than 3 days my ski trip is f'd. I will try to get them to give me another date, but from the info provided that is a big fat if.

Who is a good travel insurance provider, how do I insure my frequent flier ticket? If I move the flight I get dinged with fees.

If I am stuck on Jury duty, and it dumps at Alta then somebody is going to the electric chair.

Exhibit bias during jury selection and you're out.

Like when they ask me "What are your beliefs about gapers?"

and I answer "Hang em', then ask questions later."

Sure, as long as you know you're saying to the right side.

Or, you can just say you hate the government so much you're gonna fuck up the proceeding at every opportunity.

Splat is so right. Not only is it really easy to do, it is one of the rare instances where you get the mic and tell the man how you really feel. Generally they ask you if you have any reations (business, personal, etc.) with the involved parties. In small town court, this can be a lengthy and hilarious process. You here all kind of shit like "Me and the judge used to go fishing" or "the DA always rubbed me the wrong way when he came into my resturant". Do lie here or I think you can be held in contempt. Next they'll ask is any of these relationships would affect your ability to be an impartial jurror. This part is easy because you can simply say "Yes". When they ask you why, you can decline to answer due to the fact that it may degrade the integrety of the trial. I did this once in a DUI/posession case because I'd played golf with the judge, seen him down 3 double G&T and proceed to roll down valley in his Caddy. The last opportunity is when the ask you about the law being applied. Basically, if you don't think puffing tuff/kicking someone's face in/sticking your junk in a goat is not a crime and you're not gonna commit regardless of the evidence the DA will use a premptive strike.

I would show up at court with lost of reading material. Chances are you'll never make it into the box. If you do, use one of the above techniques. Also, dress really scruffy. Some judges will kick you out of there court for this. Don't try to get of it before hand because then you'll just get called again in a few months.

I don't know anyone who's served on a jury against their wish. Our legal precedents are being made by a bunch of housewifes, indigents, and retirees with nothing better to do.

Update: after some begging I got my date moved to 11/17.

As an FYI, if you buy travel insurance after getting a supoena you will not be covered for missing the trip as a result. They simply look at the mail date on the supoena and match it up with the policy date.
