Question JONG Full face helmet question (Ski/bike)

I want a full face so I can look Xtremo.

Is it better to buy a ski-specific or bike-specific fullface helmet to use for both?

The Giro Switchblade is purrrrty, but at $180 seems a little steep when there are ones for 1/2 that price or less (Bell Bellistic, 661, etc.)

    Thanks!

i would buy a bike-specific and wear a liner under it during the winter, rather than buying a ski-specific and having it be to hot while riding.

i'm also not sold on the switchblade concept. it has been out for awhile, but i personally know two people who have faceplanted with one, and snapped the "face guard" into multiple pieces. for real protection a proper full face is your best bet.

just looked at giro's website and notice they dont even offer it for 2004.
As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.

I've thought about getting a light full-face, but the Switchblade is discontinued. I've heard of one being sold in Europe, the MET Parachute, but I have no idea how good it is.

As opposed to the Giro, the MET looks like its removable face guard is made of the same material as the helmet. While it'll most certainly break in a faceplant, hopefully it'll divert some of the impact force away from your jaw and save your teeth, heh.

I can highly reccomend the giro Mad Max II. I've never been too hot in it, it's really comfy, fits well, and I got it for about 75 I think. It's a one peice, full fiberglass shell so alot more protection than a ski helmet. Doesn't feel too heavy to ski in.

Get a bike helmet. There are way more full face options and several of them are more bomber than their ski bretheren.

If you are riding aggresively, the switchblade just isn't strong enough. The Mad Max II is a great deal for something that will really protect your head / face.

I've got a 661 Full Bravo, and for the price I couldn't believe how good a helmet it is. Super comfortable, not too hot (altho I would never go XC'ing with it), and I daresay a lot better looking than a lot of the others out there...

I just got a Bell Bellistic for $49 bucks off www.cambriabike.com. Fits just as well as my wintertime Giro Flint SC... very comfy.

I bought one Saturday and only have one day one mine doing lift served. It was 80 degrees and the helmet wasn't hot or stuffy. Sorry, that's all I got for info.

The Giro is nice but the bottom line is it has to fit right. For me the only one that really fits is the Troy Lee but it's a bit pricey. The new Specialized is pretty good too and the '07 models should be available within the next month.

I just bought an Azonic Fury. It might be a bit hot for downhilling, but the goggles fit nicely and so I think it will work well in winter too.

I've got a Remedy, definitely my favorite FF to date. (rode 661 previously) But as it's been said, it's all about fit.

It's not that hot and for how cheap you can get it, it's decent. That said, mine's getting replaced next year.

round or oval head? i really like my fuse for ski, and it's supposed to be more for the roundheads. how does the remedy compare?

I have a remedy and a fuse and they fit about the same. Just be careful about the sizing. I use a Large fuse and a medium remedy.
    The sizing is different.

Giro's typically fit oval heads better
