Yo dude, if you want to get out sometime I'd be happy to teach you how to go from kinda stuck (like in that picture) to REALLY fucking stuck. Haha!
Seriously, happy to get out and teach you guys what little I know. If you're willing, I'd strongly recommend being ready to sacrifice a ski day and get out (just one of you on the sled) for a soft boot day and just learn how to ride. It'll make you a lot more capable in the future.
I assume you bought it mostly for La Plata Canyon, do you have a way to transport it elsewhere? LPC is fun but I think there are better places nearby to learn how to actually handle the sled.
This is kind of stuck-specific. Sometimes it's best to roll the sled. Sometimes it's best to dig. Sometimes you can pin and wiggle. In any case the goal is to get the track back up on top of snow with traction and usually to flatten the sled enough that it's not trying to climb Mt Everest to get out of the hole.
I make some. Simple design that bolts to the side of the tunnel. I don't have the website built out yet so just PM me. Lead time would be about 1-2 weeks - I retail at $150 per side of the sled (including straps and all the hardware) but I'll do a mag discount of course.
Reverse is mostly only helpful on hardpack and when unloading from your truck or trailer. There will be plenty of times when you go to turn around that you'll be going "goddammit I wish I had reverse" but the real problem is almost always lack of talent.
Snowmobiles are simultaneously really fun and an absolute motherfucker. Eventually you'll learn that sleds are more than just an access tool and that going out on a high danger day and getting faceshots all day while never going anywhere near avalanche terrain is pretty fucking awesome.
